Music listings?

Hi there, I'm promoting a live hip hop night in September.
(strictly speaking their a jazz/funk band with DJ/MC, so there should be a broad appeal)

I know a few of you guy's promote your own nights.
I was wondering if anyone had any e mail addresses i could hit with a press release??

It's in Darlington so no need to worry about any competition!
I used to have it sorted many moons ago before becoming Lazy/disillusioned/lazy about promoting!

Any Help would be much appreciated!

You mean for listings in magazines, newspapers etc? I have some, but they're for London. Where is Darlignton anyway? (classic London attitude there)

Yeah, any of the national mags, I know there's a few of them & it would save me going out and buying them. (I've got ones for SNC, HHC, touch, the guide and, gulp... mixmag
)

Got the local ones covered.

I'm not paying for this one so I'm not sure how many people I will get on my list, + for some reason I always seem to have
more freinds during the week when I put a night on? weird?

My guess, looking at how much things are costing is they will do well to break even. Maybee if you were to do a review of the night I could waltz you in as press?

It will be a great night, I'll give you the rundown closer to the time.

I think that's the one... If it is, then they act as some sort of distribution of listings for loads of publications. I've gotta say that unless you have a big name involved, they rarely touch one-offs or new nights. Only after it's been on for a while do they take notice of you... Maybe that's because so many nights come and go, or maybe they like to think they 'vouch' for their readers, or maybe it's an ego thing, I have no idea - I've just notice that, that's all. It's also a good idea to send listings for the same night from more than one source.

Never thought of that, I'll get my "team" onto it.

That is the add for the guide, they listed us in their top 5 nights of the week section once so I'll play on that!

I gotta say it's a mystery with those people - I'm convinced they put us in one time because Mark's DJ name is Llmod1 and they figured he was some kind of super-cool Techno cutting edger from Berlin or something!

Still, "indescribably kickin" was a nice thing for the Guide to say about HF&S last Sat...
