Hello.

I will be in Brighton this coming Saturday. Can anyone on this board recommend some good bars, food places (esp. vegetarian) and decent clubs.

    Cheers my dears!

Well, as a meat eater, I can't give you any personal recommendations on where to eat, but my Brother-In-Law is a vegan and makes a special trip from 'round here just to eat at Terre A Terre.

There is a good guide on this page on places to eat and where they are.

Personally, I always end up lunching at Blind Lemon Alley and never regretted being a creature of habit.

Right I can squeeze in a bit more about my fave town.

              Bodger are you a brightonian?

              Anyways.

Here is a streetmap to the George. It was voted like best vege place to eat. I really rate it. Can get very busy.

              http://www.streetmap.co.uk/newmap.....=0&ar=Y

Its on Trafalgar St. Which is the road from the station down to the 'level'. If you walk down here you'll see a couple of record stores.

One called 'recordland' which is feckin horrible and has the comic book guy from the simpsons at the counter. Its crap.

'Waxfactor' further down the hill can be ok. Lots of rock and then in the basement hip hip and 45's. Dug to death.

So past waxfactor the george is just a bit further down the hill. Inbetween will be a right turn onto a pedestrianised street - Sydney St. (It will be on a saturday anways). This is the start of the North Laines. Loads of fit shops down here. Comic stuff, gadget shit and my fave the one-fourty-five store. I rinse out the tee's from this place. Stussy, milkcrate etc etc. Loads of nice ones you never seen anywhere else.

So on sydney street will be a wee turning called 'Gloucester St'. This has two fine pubs - The Eagle and the Basketmakers Arms. Both are good for food if the george is rammed.

Ok back on sydney st - On the far corner is 'across the tracks'. They must read VV as they have Big Jim H records for £8 with 'breaks' stickered on them. This shop is a goldmine for random stuff. I've pulled some ridiculous uk stuff from here over the years.

Ok then from across the tracks you take a wee right then a left down a very very narrow st called 'kensington gardens'. This has again loads of funky and cool places. I cant remember the name of the vege place but its waikoko something. Covered in cow style paint. Great vege food and its opposite a very very nice deli.

Then on from kensington gardens I think its Gardner St with more nice shops and other places. The komedia cafe is really nice just to chill in and have a coffee.

Then its onto Bond St and this joins up with North St which goes up the hill to the Clock Tower. Bond St has a cool bar called 'ricki tiks'. Great jugs of cocktails here. Miu-Miu's leather me.

From the Clock Tower its West St which goes past all the arcades down to the seafront. If you go on the seafront here and take a right then you'll hit Gemini's.

As for other drinking holes I'm not too sure. I never did the bar thing and when I'm down I never go to the new ones. Alley cats which is in a basement below the casino on East St (2mins from the palace pier) is a good bar.

If you like Japanese food then also try Moshi Moshi. Its a really smart place with the usual conveyer but their menu is superb. The restaurant is open to the outside by sliding doors. Awesome!

              Clubs wise.

Enigma (Quantic stylee funk hiphop etc) - http://www.tru-thoughts.co.uk/?page=live/phonic.html

              Jazz Rooms - http://www.jazzbop.co.uk/jazzrooms

Casablancas (super cheesy jazz funk. Awesome fun).

Funky Fish club (SUPER cheesy soul/mod/funk). Its in a hotel and its like you've walked into the wedding reception from hell. Great place to pull.

              Anyways have fun!

Not as yet but planning to relocate soon. Always love going down there especially as it seems everyone I know has either moved there or is planning to go soon.

Brightons good to live in for a while. Its very insular (too insular) and you get to know everyone who floats in the record circles very quickly.

I had to move away just to get a pay rise. Sucked but thats life innit!
