just a little heads up for those needing some obscure breaks -
i just picked up two copies of a locally-recorded obscurity from the late 70s called "the sound of the mike james band". having never heard of it before and noticing the cover of "star wars" among the tracklisting, it sounded promising.
the "star wars" cover is pretty funky for a bunch of what sounds like enthusiastic amateurs on their lunch hour - seriously, very nice! what's more interesting is the original composition "smash & grab"... half-way through the track it goes into some seriously frenzied and indulgent drum soloing and straight into a really nice, crisp, funky rhythm which is totally useable if you've got a hot sampler on the go.
keep 'em peeled if you don't have this one!
if anyone wants to hear it, i'll do a soundclip.
