  • Top ten list

I don't think we've done a top ten thread in a while and I thought it might be a nice way to get some new members posting up things that they are into.

That doesn't mean you regulars can get away! For example:

Si Cheeba can do a latin soul 10

Left Hand Corner can post the top 10 records he will definitely be taking to Denmark

Llmod1 can post the top 10 records he owns that the rest of us have only seen on shop walls

Belson can post a top 10 of records so obscure not even the artists themselves have a copy or remember releasing them in the first place

To make sure that anything after my 10 is an improvement, here is a selection of records I will be playing at my mates Wedding Reception on Friday (in no particular order)

    1. Style Council – Shout To The Top
    2. Dexys Midnight Runners – There, There My Dear
    3. Boston – More Than A Feeling
    4. Lynda Lyndell – What A Man
    5. Prince Buster - Enjoy Yourself
    6. Sister Sledge – Thinking Of You
    7. The Charlatans – The Only One I Know
    8. Beyonce – Crazy In Love
    9. Andy Williams – Can’t Take My Eyes Off You
    10. The Barkays – Soul Finger

Yes I own them all and now you know why I don't play any records at Fresh Brillo!

So c'mon people post your 10's

after me listing the above, you shouldn't be worried about posting anything!

I decided to do a proper pruning session on my records and take only full-on quality LPs and 45s to Denmark. Strange thing is after sorting through my LPs, having one pile for "must-takes" and one pile for "can live without", the "must-takes" pile ended up with the cheap and common to get LPs ("Superfly","Hear My Dear&quot and the other pile had a lot of holy grails. Surely that's not right. I must've done something wrong.

Some charts from Veris and I can be found on our site.

For no reason here are the last 10 tracks played here at Mystery Towers for no other reason than they just happened to be laying around the gramaphone.

The Cats - One Way Wind (Cat's wind just about sums this up)
                Love Sculpture - Sabre Dance
Afrika Bambaata & Soulsonic Force - Looking for the Perfect Beat
The Shadows - My Babe (Played both forward and backwards)
The Corries - Will Ye Go Lassie Go
Corporal Gander's Fire Dog Brigade - Come Back Here
Desperate Dan Band - Let's Work Together
Peter Sellers - Michael Parkinson Interview
Ut - Homo (could've been better)
Tokyo Ukulele Afternoon Club - Tequila.

I note my half interspersed this with a selection from her ELO greatest hit's collection, which is her Yin to my Yan

Which has now inspired me to go an d find my Yin and Yan LP

Joe Quarterman & Free Soul - I feel Like This
                    Dynamic 7 - Squeeze Me

                    Johnny Hammond - Rocksteady

As always I woke up with an immense dread that I left the box on the night bus. It happens every time, I swear, next time I'm gonna hand cuff myself to it (or alternatively take it to bed with me...

Nice tune, until that Nutcracker fellow opens his mouth! He has to be the worst rapper I have ever heard in my life - wrecked an otherwise fine LP, not to mention all the 12s...

                          Brilliant.

Here's ten things I'll probably be taking with me on Friday. They'll be used in deepest, darkest Southport to slightly confuse some deep, dark indie kids amongst some proper genius electrorockpunksoulandallthat...

                          2. Little Red Riding Hood - Yogi Bear and Boo Boo
                          3. Truck Driving Son Of A Gun - Dave Dudley

                            Thanks fellas!

Great to see some of you posters with a post count below 100 (the ones with a life?    )

Interesting to see an Animals on Wheels track in your chart Formigo. He's a mate of mine from Cambridge and is a really lovely bloke.

Have you checked out the LP he did under his really name of Andrew Coleman?

A good friend of Animals On Wheels is a guy called Pete Um. Check out his stuff here:

                            http://www.umbusiness.co.uk

Board member Towny did a remix of Um's track 'Holy Fire' a fair few years back and it was great! Shame it never got a release......
He also contributed songs for the Jim Henson movie vehicle 'Muppets From Space'.

Ten Tunes that have been enduring heavy rotation in rural Notts since I returned from a very mellow and sun-kissed long weekend in Brighton.

                              1. Shuggie Otis - Strawberry Letter 23
                              2. New Rotary Connection - I Am The Black Gold Of The Sun
                              3. Odyssey - Our Lives Are Shaped By What We Love
                              4. Newban - Hungry Grin
                              5. 5th Dimension - Puppet Man
                              6. Terry Callier - Ho Tsing Mee
                              7. Bill Withers - Can We Pretend
                              8. Monkees - The Porpoise Song
                              9. Morgana King - Like A Seed
                              10. Sergio Mendes & Brasil 77 - Love Music

Loving the South-East 'hippies and homs' vibe down there. Complete contrast to the lairyness of Nottingham - not once did I think any trouble was going to kick off! Max Sedgley at Audio was our evening of choice on Saturday and a fine time was had by all. And the Brunswick Festival on Sunday afternoon proved a good recovery session. Gotta get back down there soon.
                              Jet Boy stole my baby.
