    Hi Rich

That was Southport rather than Prestatyn I think
it's OK to head out for wonderful, but on your way to wonderful, you're gonna have to pass through all right. When you get to all right,
take a good look around and get used to it, because that may be as far as you're gonna go.

                  • Not been on for a few weeks, and got a hell of a shock when I saw the post title. I'm not ashamed to admit that I've been welling up reading this thread. I think that I only met him a couple of times, but he came across as a top bloke who immediately put you at ease. I'm pretty sure that talking bollocks and laughing were involved, which is probably why I thought that he was a top bloke!

I hope that you all gave him a good send off.
                    Don't call it a comeback... H, N, and the number 7.
                    Ok, it's a bit of a comeback, I suppose...

                    • I was just looking through some old PMs I have here and I found a couple I got from Neil 3 years ago. It was regarding the Dudley Moore Today & Sight And Sound albums. He was offering to just give them to me. I didn't take him up on it because it would have been too much. But it's rare when people offer to just give me records so it was a touching thing to see again. He was a kind guy.
See, you don't get those haircuts on your mp3s.

he was beyond kind - a true maverick and a one off / cash never ever entered it - a rare quality that we all could and should learn from.

I saw my mate Karl the other week and he had this and a few more from the same weekend, so I'll ask him to do better scans.

                          • Great photo Hayden...

Here's a mix that Neil and I put together for a website called Royal Groove back in the autumn of 2002. We called it "Towny Versus The Vulture - Mathmatics With Soul & A Beat", click on the links below to download it in two (25min+) parts. Some of you old school VV'ers might remember it...

Towny v The Vulture (Part One)

Towny v The Vulture (Part Two)

What can I remember of this... Well, it started off as a rough music mix conceived on my 1210's over the course of about a week's worth of evenings, creatively guided by several beers and many large spliffs. The tunes used were an approx 50:50 mix from each of our collections - those of you that know us both will be able to differentiate the styles - plus a couple of tunes that we were both fiending and raving about at the time... The Nino Nardini track being the best example...

Once in draft form, it was tweeked and polished using Neil's computer - at the time, I didn't have a PC powerful enough to run music software - and so we decamped from mine and shifted over to Neil's. Watching Neil manouvre, stretch and crop the music waveforms and add vocal samples over the top of the music was pure wizardry to me... This final mixdown process took longer than the rest of the project, such was his attention to detail. I also remember him sneaking in a couple of "Towny" pieces into the mix one day whilst I was at work - the cheeky monkey! - these were snippets of his own sample-based compositions that he was working with using a program called Acid - I'm sure you'll spot them... I recall that Acid was his audio sketchbook; he would use it to mess around and manipulate beats and samples into rough tracks that would later become full-blown Towny compositions.

I've listened to this tonight for the first time in a number of years and, personally speaking, I don't think it has aged too badly. Anyway, the main thing for me is I can still hear Neil's influence, his style and the laughs we had putting it together - not forgetting him shouting "fookin' tuuune Sie!" each time I slid the crossfader from deck 1 to deck 2...

If you're looking for a pristine copy then this isn't the one for you. The vinyl looks like someone has polished their brickwork with it and the label has been ruined by some fool with a pen.
