Edirol UA-5 full duplex pro USB external soundcard.

Takes just about any inputs, from line in to XLR mike.

under 130 quid! a serious bargain. brand new too.

Funny, I was just comparing prices between Turnkey and Digital Village for sound cards. I've had a Midiman stereo in and out for ages but didn't notice how cheap other ones were now, was thinking of upgrading to 8 ins and outs, ie the M-Audio Delta 1010

Question is, are these cheap ones worth getting?

I've heard people say it's not worth spending less than £700 but my computer is a few years old so that seems a bit pointless.

Those big inputs on the front are combined, they'll take XLR or 1/4" jack... pretty standard nowadays.

This sort of kit is adequate if you're doing reasonably simple things, e.g. running a cable out of your DJ mixer to record a mix to hard drive.

If you're actually looking to do multi-track recording or something I'd probably start looking at an internal PCI card or FireWire unit, the latency inherent in USB is reasonably high.

formigo - I dont think anyone would have thought it did anything else seeing as it severly lacks inputs. It looks a good little box for £130.

My delta 66 is a breakout box connected to an internal card - the perfect way to work in my book. Firewire is still too glitchy.

Tee hee. Well, you know how it is when you've recently become an "expert" on something... I'm filled up with largely obvious and generally useless knowledge and a heavy desire to spatter it on others.
