• Next monday's brillo

Next Monday is Brillo night.

There are some regular Brillo attendees and VV forum users who like 80s soul and funk. I'm thinking of bringing a mostly 80s bag next week; would anyone else be interested in bringing down some quality 80s funk, disco, soul etc?

Is anyone who goes to the Brillo nights interested in hearing music recorded after about 1977?

Vinyl from the 80s can get just as dusty as vinyl from the 60s or 70s after all!

Recent purchases from me, therefore no 80's boogie (I don't have any). But my ears are alway open for schooling. (As long as it's not Pat And Mick 'Let's All Chant&#39. And I'm still waiting for Hayden's debut AOR set.

I'm bringing a bunch of skiffle records as part of my 'roots of rock n roll' set.

I love 80's disco & soul but a lot of people I know think it's very boring when played in succession. LBG can probably attest to that after getting some of my tapes!

If only my AOR crates ran that deep Rich. Perhaps I'll start a thread on it so the more *ahem* mature members of the board such as the good Ladyboy and Son Of Stan can fill me in on those lost middle-of-the-road rock gems that I can pick up for pittance at my local booters.....
He also contributed songs for the Jim Henson movie vehicle 'Muppets From Space'.

Ed, I'd be up for some 80s

Was thinking of bringing some 60s moddish tunes plus a few other recent bits to play (groans all round) but could also pack some other stuff and my portable for an impromptu 80's / soul / disco corner!

Hopefully, we'll have the full Program contingent down to Fresh Brillo, as joining Veris and I will be local legend Jim Donovan. Jim has been digging for records since about 1958 so has quite a few.

I hope there is a mic facility as Jim like to do things very old-school stye.

What, to tell old Brillo tales of how he found this one during the great car boot summer of '73?!!

It's Brillo, the swapmeet, not Brillo the Northern old geezer allnighter!

Sorry, all this talk of 80s spins is stressing me out... Maybe we can split up the 80s sets so we don't get perms bursting sporadically from heads - even mine!

Don't worry about it, Nick -

There's no D in fresh FRESH BRILLO!

Looks like another non-attendance for me.

Well seeing as last night he played Billy Ball & Roosevelt Matthews 'Tighten Up' on King 7" I think as an 'old geezer' he should be able to cut it with you funk youngsters.

Like KRS1 he's edutainment. The mic allows him to impart knowledge whilst enteraining at the same time.

He ain't Northern. But he will not doubt spin some Northern Soul acetates.

Well, I'm sure I'm not the only dufus wondering... What's the 'D' for Greg?!?

And we miss you dude - it's been too long!

I don't wanna come across as an old stick in the mud here, but can't your friend spread his knowledge just by chatting with everyone when he's not DJing, as everyone else does?

'Civillians' still drink down there while we do our weird things. I'm just not sure we need to assert our presence further this way. I know that's not the idea, but it's a bit much on a Monday...

Nick,

I'll speak to Jim and ask him to respect you wishes and leave the chatter for some other time.

I take it you don't want him to bring along his portable smoke machine.....

I'm not in charge, I'm just saying that it might be a bit much, that's all. 5 dunno, maybe it'll be fun - after all, the average spin time at brillo is about what, 25 minutes?

What does everyone else think?
