• What price for a hustlers convention?

Can any of you chaps tell me what the going rate for an original Lightnin' Rod Hustlers Convention on average goes for.

I'm basically trying to get a copy off my mate and I've offered him my reissue along with my original Ultra's Funky 12". He doesn't really buy much stuff and certainly no original soul/funk etc records but he's not biting. (I get the feeling he wants to have at least one record in his collection that he knows I want&#33

I don't really do ebay but what does it generally go for on there? I have noticed a copy on Music Stack for £50 so maybe the trade I'm offering isn't very fair?

Anyone? Cheers.

i'd say 50 is ott in this day and age........£40 is a fair top price for a mint copy........if ya can't persuade your mate to part with it........i've got an unplayed original here that's looking for a decent home......

I'd say this is a prime example for Hadrian's thread about records that were once expensive, now cheap due to reduced demand for whatever reason (see 'cheap&#39. Hustler's Convention was fairly sought after-ish when many people were into the Last Poets back around 91ish. I'd be extremely surprised if this would sell for over £20 these days...

You can get it for anywhere from $20-$40 here in the States.

I'd say that your mate is getting a good trade if you just give him your Funky 12".

I know taste in music is subjective, however aside from 'Sport' I have always found Hustlers Convention quite boring.

I'd keep your Ultras 12" & save it for a more worthwhile swop if I were you.
He also contributed songs for the Jim Henson movie vehicle 'Muppets From Space'.

The Ultra's 12 is worth more then the Hustlers. Both in price and quality I'd say!

Just kidding. But being serious for a second: trade for what's valuable to you. So called market values on the majority of records out there is pure bullshit. If you love the Hustler's Convention LP and not bothered about the Ultras 12, then trade the former for the latter.

Screw the value aspect, all that depresses me sometimes, everyone asking for stock price quotes all the time... He's a mate, so trade for what you want - it's not like he's a dealer squirreling out unbalanced trades all day long (and I'm sure dealers are far too busy for all that milarky too&#33

I frequently trade things I know are worth more than what I get in return - but who fuckin' cares? I'm not gonna go to all the hassle of holding back, ebay selling, or haggling for days on end to squeeze an extra buck or two from the transaction. If the things I trade for are new to my ears (and if I like them of course) then that's worth more to me.

I feel i may have been misunderstood........i do have a spare Hustlers lp but i wouldn't want as much as 40 quid for it.....
i have sold this lp for 40 not too long ago but as most previous posts have said..........this has come down so much in demand and prices obviously reflect that......still see it on lists and walls at record fairs for 40+ though............

... and you'll see it on walls for £40+ for many more years to come, along with Hook & Sling for £45, ha ha!

hook & sling at 45.....???
blimey...never seen it that high..........that would be taking the mickey (or eddie in this case)........in all seriousness though......a lot of the time i think the 'internet record world' and the 'record fair record world' are two very different 'worlds'........i've seen records selling at fairs for 4 or 5 times what they'd fetch on the net.......and vise versa too of course........don't forget that a lot of collectors aren't on the net.........so to some people 40 for a hustlers conv is prob fairly realistic.........

It's on the wall at the record shop on Hanway St, not JB's the one further down. 95% of records in UK shops are over-priced, which is why I (& I'd expect many here) hardly ever buy from shops, ever!

Saw a 'Beachparty 3' for the reasonable sum of £24 in Haggle during the summer.

i've had good buys from Haggle in the past........as Nick quite rightly says....95 per cent of records in u.k. shops are over priced..........it's all about finding the 5 percent that are underpriced...........if you have the time and energy that is.........i buy fairly regularly from loads of uk shops........you gotta be realistic about what you're gonna find but nevertheless..........
