• Hf&s thurs nov 04: rev cleatus & his soul saviours

Thursday Nov 04, Reverend Cleatus & The Soul Saviours live. Guest DJs: Matt & Rich Hero (Hero No.7)
Hot, Funky & Sweaty. Every Thursday at The Salmon & Compass, 58 Penton St (corner of Penton & Chapel Mkt), Angel, London N1. 8pm-2am. £3, free before 9pm. Info: 020 7837 3891.

The honorable Reverend Cleatus returns, though we still canÂ’t figured out which oneÂ’s the holy man, but who cares? They all smoke! Fiery funk from the band that rose from the Longo AllstarsÂ’ ashes... Lots of new material this time too, including their entry on the upcoming HF&S LP, scheduled for Jan/Feb 05 release on Acid Jazz Records...

Matt & Rich Hero of Hero No.7 are veteran collectors – why they don’t DJ more is beyond me cos they’ve sure got what it takes to get a party moving! They already have their moment in history secured through their contribution to the evolution of Cut’n’Paste (see the excellent article in Grandslam Magazine No.1 for more details) and maybe we’ll see more on vinyl from these guys...

(Some of you may have noted that the Baker Brothers were originally booked for Nov 04. The Baker Brothers will now be playing HF&S on Dec 02. Big thanks to Rev Cleatus for swapping their date&#33

Expect to see fellas turning up to sell funk/soul 45s. It'll take a while to get going, but keep yer eyes peeled all the same. Any sellers/dealers interested, PM me from this board.

You were arguing with me for about half an hour.

Ive no idea why. I think I was being an ass. It was really random. <- Changed URL

... the three of us were stood drinking black gloop at the bar, and we were having a heated discussion about something... but I can't remember either !
If you're looking for a pristine copy then this isn't the one for you. The vinyl looks like someone has polished their brickwork with it and the label has been ruined by some fool with a pen.

I'll be in touch soon about that idea for a freaky pysche edition of HF&S sometime early 05 Andy - still up for something like that? we should burn a DVD of far out shit to project on the wall too.

We missed you Serms! Hope the work's bash was good (bellydancing???). I enjoyed myself a lot and it was great to see plenty of friendly faces down there. At one point Cheebs and I could have tossed a grenade onto the sofa across the room and removed a sizeable chunk of the record fiending competition. And, despite the good Reverend being a reduced outfit, which may explain why Mike was able to dose off during their set, nevertheless there were hammond-grooves-go-go (wot no 'Dikalo'?). And we're still waiting on those choreographed rainstick routines Si. Cheers one and all!
You freeking scientologists are all the same, quible, dribble and then demand ice creams. Ohhhhhhhhhhh.

Despite having been residing nr Newington Green for nigh on 8 months, I finally managed to make the effort & pay my first visit to HF&S (& the Salmon & Compass for that matter). It was the first time I have come across Reverend C & Co. & I thought they put on a good show to the fairly small but appreciative crowd. [Note to self: d/load the stuff they have on their website this w/end]

So aside from loosing a debate with my that good funk music can come with vocals (she is of the view that it should only ever be instrumental), I enjoyed myself.

Next I just need to get down to a Brillo night & share a few with the Islington locals.
