  • I need an iPod-iTunes synchronizing crash course

When I recently replaced my computer I somehow lost most of my music from my iTunes library so that I now only have it on my iPod and in my computer's (very unorganized) music folders. So how do I put all the music back in the iTunes library and update new music - dls etc. - without losing all the music on the iPod?? Thanks.

Maybe keep the ipod unplugged, open itunes, Click File then Add Folder to Library, and select all the folders you have music in. This will replenish your library (which are just links to the files in the original folders rather than the files themselves, as I understand it).

Also, if you check the box to 'Prevent iPod syncing automatically' (Edit > Preferences > Devices') before plugging it back in, your iPod will remain untouched until you delete from or move things to it.

It will warn you that the ipod is associated with another computer and offer to overwrite it. You need to click no.

You then need to enable direct disk access on your ipod (should be an option on one of the tabs if you select your ipod in itunes)

Once you have it should mount your ipod as a disk drive and you should be able to see your music folders, Drag them back into itunes and once complete, you need to ask itunes to reorganise your folders (this will copy the files from your ipod rather than just pointing at them).

Once this is all done, unplug your ipod, make sure you can play the music files added back into itunes, then you can overwrite your ipod with a sycnhronise.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you run into any problems

Right. Tried what you suggested and still ended up deleting 80% of the iPods' music. Work in progress........

It took you over 4 month to find the patience??

I have no idea why you'd want to learn how to crash the ipods synchronization, though...
