    Run-ins with the IFPI

The IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry) have written
to me this morning (twice) to kindly let me know that my Epic Save mix has been suspended
as a download from Mediafire, the reason being...

"Under penalty of perjury, we submit that we are authorized to act on behalf of the
IFPI Represented Companies in matters involving the infringement of their sound
recordings, including enforcing their copyrights and common law rights on the Internet."

for crying out loud! I imagine it's because of a track called No Shit by Bong Crispy
(my own made up name btw) which is a dodgy pastiche of 40's crooners, I assume
it must be that I can't think of any other reason, its still listenable at Mixcloud
so I just guess someone somewhere, is pissed - has this happened to anyone elses mix?

I doubt it's your created music that's the problem. If theres music on there from IFPI members then technically they can do this, as they are working on behalf of the record companies who own that music. The rights and the wrongs are something entirely different but they can do it.

well I dunno what it is, I have literally hundreds of mixes up on Mediafire
and this is only the second time in over 10 years that I have had one pulled.
the first one had an unreleased Bjork track on it - so I always assumed that was
the reason it got pulled but I was never actually told what the offending track
was. With this new one being pulled, the only track I can imagine it being
upsetting is that red one highlighted - I think it was even Mr. Hopkinson of this
parish who sent me that several years ago! all the rest are freely available
      as far as I know.

WENDY CARLOS : William Tell Overture
      MAJOR LAZER : Lazer Beam
      AMON TOBIN : Verbal
NEON NEON : Dream Cars – Dream Drums mix
LAURENT GARNIER : Gnanmankoudji – Horny Monster mix
DJ FOOD : A Trick Of The Ear
      YPPAH : City Glow
      SUKIA : Feel ‘n Free
      BONG CRISPY : No Shit
THE CARETAKER : Cloudy, Since You Went Away
      TOSCA : Mrs. Bongo
KUNG FU : The New Student

i'd imagine either the Walter Carlos or the Major Lazer were the likely suspects, but really, just because tracks are freely available elsewhere doesn't mean they're going to give up. a lot of stuff is left up on Youtube, because that works as promotion and the sound quality is rubbish

hmm, I have not heard of other djs having their mixes pulled - so I can only
assume shit happens but its not like I make any money out of them and they
are not that offensive - erm, except my Jazz Mag Numb mixes which seems
to imply that well cheeky porno mixes are ok and the odd mix of freely available tunes isn't.

Mixes were getting pulled a lot from soundcloud a year-or-so back, and I know a few people who had them taken down. Any users of soundcloud know if it's still the case? I prefer mixcloud for mixes, no such problems there.

it's nothing to do with anything being offensive, it's about Copyright enforcement

absolutely, I try to put a download link there when I can too
but I have never had any probs with Mixcloud, it's brilliant - and free!
