  • Golden Ring Records

Got a copy of Meet the Gang - Frank and The Top Ten on Golding Ring Records today and could not be much more up my street.

Fast Beaty Groovers, with hammond, over the top orchestrations and fuzz guitar.

Anyone know of any similar LPs on this Label?

isn't Golden Ring a German Library label, or am I getting confused ?

You're right, Matt - I've got a feeling they might be linked to the Happy library label in some way, but I'll have to check.

I think a friend of mine may have the UK publishing rights to some Golden Ring tracks......

It was listed under libary, Don't know if it is German or not nothing in German on the Record, though some of the writing credits might be German names

The notorious German Golden Ring libraries are extremely varied in content. Most of the yellow coverered issues combine the image of a movie camera with the title "Movie Maker's Music". Some numbers were released predominantly on plain covers making their typical library type appearance ever more uncharacteristic and for many, uninspiring. I have a few of the tougher issues featuring european heavies like Peter Thomas, Siegfried Schwab [Vampires Sexadelic Party] and Klaus Weiss [Niagara]. There are scores of these LP's in the Golden Ring series, but the most covetable are surely the yellowed sleeved which I'm guessing, appeared later than your copy, around 74-76. Weirdly enough, I've never come across a single Golden Ring which showcases Hammond and Fuzz type ish, just heavier, Fusion inclined Rhodes and squelchey Synth action. What's the cover like?

I saw a copy of this at a local Sydney shop but as soon as I expressed interest the owner told me it was eBay bound. And so it goes.

It was pretty damn good if memory serves.

this deffo looks like a goldenring/happy lp. Ive got the catalogue somewhere and I'll dig it out soon.

Things like 'meet joe fender' are on the same label I think.

I know the last three - all regular composers for various German libs.

I'd put money on the first three being pseudonyms - Frank Mantis is a great name!

Golden Ring and Happy Records are definitely from the same company (Ring Records of Third Eye - Connexion fame?). Later records in the Golden Ring series have the same design as Happy Records. Some of my favorite releases on Happy/Golden Ring:

                          Happy Records:

                          Meet The Gang
Mr. Marco - Make Friends and Ralph Marco's Band
                          both Incognito Five LPs (Schwab/Antolini/Cress)

basically, those that got a proper impact by Charly Antolini/Schwab/Marco/Mantis

I have no idea what Frank Mantis' and Ralph Marco's real names are though. Maybe Antolini and Schwab???

Golden Ring #11 by Klaus Weiss
Golden Ring #18 by Klaus Weiss
                          Goldn Rings #6,#7,#8 by Schwab/Thomas

there are some good tracks on other Golden Rings. Like on #25 (called Motions by HERIBERT THUSEK).
