  • January Finds?

So...has nobody found any records this month? Not seen a 'look what I found' post for ages - personally it's been quite dry on the wax front. About the best thing I've had in the wild has been Ike & Tina Turner - 'Funkier than a Mosquitos Tweater' 45

Surely somebody has turned up some goodness or have all the records finally dried up?

On a different note - the great 'Hammond Gold' comp of 2004 - did anyone take this up the the finish line or was it just me and Mr Divine? Should I post up a pic of the ridiculous amount of 'Go's now in my box room?

C'mon El-Dee-Jay, I know you've found at least one *bad* album that's gonna make some Vultures go green !

Yeah, January has been a great month for me, got some nice records to post up when we launch the new CHARTS page on this forum!
If you're looking for a pristine copy then this isn't the one for you. The vinyl looks like someone has polished their brickwork with it and the label has been ruined by some fool with a pen.

... and I wanna see just how many of those Muller LP's you've got.

      GO!

I went through 2004 without finding a single 'Hammond Gold'. Indeed, only found a single copy of KPM 'Beat Beat', therefore proving without doubt that 'Hammond Gold' is true breakbeat rear.

I'll want copywrite on that one for your auctions people.

This yeay, the only LP I have bought on my very limited travels, is a UK OG Johnny Pate's 'Shaft In Africa' OST LP from Help The Aged for 49p on Saturday. Didn't even know there *was* a UK press until then !

Matt - is that on Probe? I found one of them last year - love the title track.

Managed to get a copy of Marshall Mcluhan's 'Medium is the Massage' LP this month

Also picked up a rather bizarre flexi picture disc issued by the British Printing Corp. It's a monologue by none other than Robert Maxwell!

Other than that its been a quiet month...

shaft in africa is ace. johnny pate's the daddy. the UK press of that is nice and loud, too.

had a good start to the year for records. picked up Don Rendell's Phase III on a trade.

oh yeah - if anyone's after obscure UK TV/advert spoken word stuff, send me an email.

                    .
Good question - I haven't played it yet. It is generally not cheap but this was only nine euro but there is a big shallow scratch on side 2 - looks like it'll probably play ok but add some surface noise. Another stall had the same one almost 20 quid and it was not much nearer perfect either.

This is from the big crazy guy with the huge stall that sells second hand porn at the back and records at the front. The filing system is a little idiosyncratic but can be worth trawling through.

                      Lee,

I think it's on ABC - the same as the US press - but I'm not sure whether it's one of those funny licensed things, like Wand being an imprint Decca in the UK.

I that makes any sense. Too much work make Matt sleepy.

                        Lakeside - s/t LP
Eddy Grant - Message Man LP
                        Natalie Cole - Inseperable LP
Archie Bell & The Drells - Everybody Have A Good Time 12 (bought it thinking it was Let's Groove....)
TC Curtis - You Should've Known Better 12
INXS - Need you Tonight 12
Eric Clapton - I Shot The Sheriff 12
                        Ashford & Simpson - Don't Cost You Nothing 12
Carlos Dafe - Praque Vou Recordar LP

Its a Nigerian record - 2 loooong tracks, one on each side gets going after a while. A bit more stripped down and folksier than something like Fela Kuti but there are only 5 of them.

January's edited highlights, all for a quid or so:

James Gang - Best Of (never heard any of this before, really enjoying my country funk recently...something to investigate I think!)
Spin A Magic Tune (songs about cartoon characters, including a couple of absolute corkers)
Chuck Higgins - PhD (weird one this, eighties Italian recording of what looks like an old rock'n'roll/r'n'b type...but some great funky things on there as well, including the best songs I've ever heard about going to the dentists and complaining about toothache and about postgraduate education)
Various - More American Graffiti (brilliant compilation of 60s pop featuring great introductions by Wolfman Jack)
Glenn Campbell -Galveston (as charted the other month, see what I said about country funk...)

Most of the month has been spent reorganising and therefore discovering stuff I never knew I had or was any good...including Gilbert O'Sullivan's groovy flute tune (Too Much Attention) and another absolute stunner from Focus (Anonymous) amongst others.
                            Mixes, compilations and the like
