• Black cabs and london fog

I've been having a peak at the rather excellent Black Chains & Exhaust comp as put together by Dante.

Couldn't help but think that the Fresh Brillo crew could have a good run at this also.........a comp of upto 20 tracks, agreed upon by the Brillostars and got out there as per BCE. One track per dude, or a vote on what goes on etc.

So could 'Black Cabs and London Fog' become a reality, or am I just thinking ahead of myself again?

well the black chains is all about funk rock.

its quite focused - would we pick a 'focus' and go for it or just get everyone to submit and hope for the best.

It could end up being bloody amazing or just too eclectic. ya get me?

also it would be a boot if we did a cd run - everyone would have to chip in £50 or so....and you know what I think about bootlegs

I was thinking definitely focused.

Euro beats, maybe - could include library and all Euro stuff (funny that, eh&#33

Or a straight funk rock answer - we've all got plenty of that, haven't we chaps.

I thought about folk, cos we all again, have an abundance of that, but part of the appeal of the BCE comp, is its' brash ballsiness. Not quite sure how much of an instant impact folk would have in comparison to the BCE comp.

The bootleg thing - the jury is out with that one. I'ld be interested to hear other peoples point of view, particularly John S. and his standpoint.

Nice idea G, like it. Definitely needs a focus but there's definitely enough euro and folk gear out there. The ethics of booting are tricky - I largely feel that whether the money changes hands for profit or simply to cover costs makes a big difference.

I say everyone chips in the cash so we can press £500 cds. Rougly £25 a head. Each person that chips in gets one track on the cd.

Then everyone gets say 20 copies to give to people - and 100 are left over to promote the night - give to press, other people that come to the nights and so on.

We dont make any money, we dont er really rip anyone off and, we get an amazing cd full of music and everyones a winner....

Let the fighting over the 'genre' commence

I have no preference! ps I would stay away from putting *anything* library related on there. Those guys are like vultures specially de Wolfe.

Hi,

Rather than Euro based could it be worldwide? I have a funk rock track from Mexico which may fit the bill.

I'm into this idea... Like the title too (privately, I'll be calling it 'Car Boots & Exhaust' &#33

For a focussed sound or subject - I'd say car boot England! Or in that area anyways... Maybe a booklet with many shots of certain, infamous car boots across the country...!

Put me down for 25 quid & a track!

As for the bootleg issue. Let's just do it as a promotional tool - no money to be made, so fuck it - wack 'em out!

If it somehow blows up, we can think about doing an official version...

LOL! I like both those titles (but bonus points for the anorak connotation that goes with flasks).

As I already bigged this one up on the Soulstrut board, count me in for whatever cash donation is needed and a tune - needs to be genre-tight, but we could comp 20 tracks from the UK between 1968 and 71/73 - that way we get rock, funky folk, psyche etc etc - the black cabs and fog angle kinda suits that period too - grimy london with splashes of psychedelic colour.

Luvverly.

Already have a proposal in mind... Should we bring contenders to the next Fresh Brillo?

...especially if it contains 'a weak lemon drink'.

I'm in by the way, I'd vote to keep it at the junk-y end of the spectrum; containing the tracks that you'd get (or have got) from a car boot / charity shop.

[edit : just in case nobody else other than Rich and Sermad has seen it, I've posted a 'work in progress' track in the home productions forum, just begging to be ripped apart in a non constructive manner by y'all. Please feel free to have a listen if you want.....]

Just my opinion, but I'd love to see an all Uk comp.

I'm constantly on the lookout for weird uk released or based jazz/soul/folky stuff.

However as this would the exclude the many fine and upstanding members of the board from outside of this sceptered isle, perhaps we could each contribute a track from the land of our birth/where we live?

It would certainly be an eclectic and interesting compilation.

I already have a Suffolk group doing Oye Como Va I could put on there!
He also contributed songs for the Jim Henson movie vehicle 'Muppets From Space'.
