The word 'genius' can be over-used these days... mostly by me, but the sight of a grown man on a 'cool' small bike had me nearly dying with laughter.

          ?!

I thought it was OK. . .not quite as incendiary as the Brasseye paedophile special, but fairly chucklesome.

There appears to be material at http://www.trashbat.co.ck/index_t12.html
but it's so irritating I had to expel it after a couple of seconds.

I also think that they ads for the show were a little too successful in their parody - since they blend in with the rest of the glossy shite that decorates our public spaces. Wasn't until I actually watched the show that it twigged.

Aren't ads supposed to work the other way round ?!

Also, props to Morris for composing his own music. . .very few directors who do (and even fewer who are good at it. . .John Carpenter being my personal fave, and a certain Mr Eastwood being alledgedly proficient too).

I liked it and hated it at the same time. Its about 4 years late!

Much prefered the shoreditch twat special that was on. Nicky lavelle and the sniper had me in tears!

"you're never more than 3 feet away from a DJ..."

as for Nathan Barley, I laughed a bit, but wonder when a satire of the trendy idiocy of self-regarding media twats actually just becomes an example of what it's supposed to be taking the piss out of ? Morris is good at his best, and Charlie Booker's a bloody funny writer (the bit about the show in The Guide was actually funnier than the half hour of TV, IMNSHO) but it's never more than patchy and the uncritical worship in the press etc seems a bit excessive. It's the Nathan Barleys who'd be the biggest fans of Chris Morris, after all - which I give him the credit of knowing, but wonder if he's turning out this just OK stuff to try and get a bad review...or something...

Mind you, the line about Freddie Starr ("you know, the original Bill Hicks") was a definite high spot...

Thought it was good but not much more unfortunately. Didn't think there was much in the trendy types to be honest, bit shallow and definitely late. Thought the Dan Ashcroft character was very good though. I'm assuming that's where the series is going.

Fantastic art-direction/props though. Which makes me think it'll be a grower. Best bit was when Ashcroft was reading his own article. Brilliant Morris journalism...seek out his Observer stuff if you can be bothered.

NB: this week's NME describes cock muff bumhole as 'cock my thumbhole'. I assume its a press release piss take.

The best thing about that show is that if you ever try to praise it to anyone, you come across like a total twat.

I thought the Shoreditch Twat thing was apalling.

in the final ever Shoreditch Twat magazine a year or two ago there was an article having a go at Chris Morris for (supposedly) stealing ideas, jokes, and actors(!) from what was going to be the Shoreditch Twat series, which lost out to Nathan Barley in getting made...

oh yeah. Neil Boorman who created the shoreditch twat went right off at chris morris in the guardian. Totally slated nathan barley and had a right moan about the twat tv series being canned.

oh yeah, saw that. but i don't think he actually linked Morris to the cancellation of the Twat tv series. the earlier article he wrote could have been rubbish, but he claimed the series seemed likely to be made until Morris and Brooker came along with the same ideas and getting picked instead. and of course not being in the Guardian meant there were no holds barred in the language. wish i'd kept it, although i guess it still might be somewhere in my lounge...

I'm sure the story of how the Shorditch Twat got twatted will be in the Guardian website somewhere... I'll just go 'ave a look now. The twats...
