    Having recently discovered the Duffy Power version of this, I'm seeing the song in a whole new light.
    Is there a better version out there?

    I'm not being obscure for the sake of it.....but

    Unknown artist on Purple Heart Surgery #3 is a killer, as is one from an unreleased 4 track acetate by Mr Mo's Messengers. Both done in mod style.

        Well I've always loved P J Proby's version, but I do understand he is an acquired taste that some people are happy not to acquire. Picks up quite a head of steam as it progresses.

              Seconded on the PJ proby. Got that only a couple of months back and love it.Truly deranged vocal.

              This Zappa guitar version is quite interesting too:

                            If you're looking for a pristine copy then this isn't the one for you. The vinyl looks like someone has polished their brickwork with it and the label has been ruined by some fool with a pen.
