    Sound visionary and founder of Dolby Laboratories Ray Dolby died Thursday at his home in San Francisco. He was 80.
    The company said that Dolby had been living with Alzheimer's disease in recent years and was diagnosed with acute leukemia in July.

    Great loss. Ironically a household name for later surround stepus on tellies and the like, rather than his pioneering noise reduction work (instrumental in helping make cassette a hi fi medium) and his incredible quadruplex video machines, which were a giant leap in recording visuals.

    I dedicate 'there's a kind of hush' to his memory!
