Well, I know bugger all about these guys... I was in my local SH record shop and recognised a cover from the Jazz Cafe site a couple of days ago... 'Colosseum Live'. It was only £1.50 for a double so didn't break the bank... does anyone know much about the band?

Get 'The Valentyne Suite' - it's a total mother!

Incidentally Undeground Solushun in Edinburgh are selling off the recent 'Kettle' 12" reissue thingy - it's got 'Elegy' on it too - for 99p - anybody want one?

yeah Valantyne Suite is amazing - Elergy of this LP is one of my favourite tracks ever. They've done live versions of it too but they're not as good.
You can get Kettle on a US 45 too.
They did 2 other studio LPs: Those about to die...' and Daughter of time' - not sure if they're any good or not.

Thirded (or fourthed?) on the Valentyne Suite, though for me 'January's Search' is the killer track.

Colosseum were led by drummer Jon Hiseman, and featured ace jazzer Dick Heckstall-Smith on sax and Dave Greenslade on keys - there's another LP of rarities on the Bronze label, 'Collectors' Colossuem', which is OK, though has rather too many vocals on it for my liking.

There was also a Colusseum II with Hiseman, Barbara Thompson and Gary Moore - don't have anything by them, but I seem to recall thinking what I've heard was quite nice, albeit rather unspectacular. I've not heard any of their stuff in any great depth, though, so tread with caution!
