Don't think we've had one of these for a while

I'd like to recommend "Cut The Line" by Heidi Harris. Really very good, and limited.

This is a bit of a half-recommendation but I saw Lucrecia Dalt last night supporting Julia Holter. I thought she was bloody amazing. I haven't started to check out her records yet myself but I intend to. Not a million miles away from the Heidi Harris sound clips. Here's her Soundcloud. She was brilliant live, perfectly fitted to the massive, cavernous space.

I can't actually tell you what my fave record is at the moment 'cos I'm keeping it under wraps for my Xmas swap.

    or....

HERES ONE IM KEEPING SECRET 50P ROUGHTRADE BANGER THIS WILL HAVE THE SYNTHY HEADS LITERALLY SOILING THEMSELVES AND ROLLING IN IT ITS GOT EVERYTHING DRUMS NOISES AND STUFF AND A COVER

Well I'm probably about to make things worse by recommending Luke Haines' recent LP. He's witty, eccentric, he gets right up some peoples noses, and he's got Nick Lowe as a badger. He's also got tunes.

            We have the technology etc

That Lucrecia Dalt is pretty good stuff, never heard of her before, thanks for the recommendation Dan. I checked Discogs and noted that her latest (and the stuff I with enjoying the most) is on cd, bah! I'll keep an eye out for her work, cheers!

              Melody Gardot - Baby I'm A Fool

Not very new and certainly not very cool but this song has been rocking Expiry Towers at the moment (apart from Katy Perry's Roar but that's another story)
I like the sting arrangment, I like the slight vibrato in her voice, I like the modern day 'easy' vibe that doesn't fall into parody
Never heard anyone else play it or anyone talk about her so I've no idea if she's a well known musician or not - but maybe some on her might like this track too - or not?????
The video is, in my view, a bit of a travesty so close your eyes and listen to the music
"Record collecting is no mere hobby, no innocuous leisurely diversion. It is a feverish passion bordering on dementia, driving those under the influence to irrational, compulsive, fanatical extremes."

Discogs is incorrect on that one mate. Syzgy is on LP - Boomkat have 'em I'm almost tempted to say, do you wanna order two and split postage, but this seems ridiculously tight, even by my standards.

Bel Canto means 'beautiful singing'. A singing style to enchant, rather than blow the audience's powdered hairpieces away.

Simone Kermes is amazing, one of the best voices in living memory.

It's got a couple of classical comp faves - Casta Diva and the formidable Queen of the Night Aria. It's also got some beautiful obscurities, stuff I'd never heard of, let alone heard

If you like opera, get it. If you want one opera record in your collection, get it.
