  • iPads are **useless**

Never been a fan of them, I'm a self-confessed Luddite, possibly why I prefer vinyl to digital

Anyway I was reading this http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-26448158 and immediately thought how useless these things are when it comes to music. Supposing his mum had spent £10k in the apple store for music downloads. Does that mean that 10k is now worthless? If she'd bought records instead of downloads her son wouldn't be in such a predicament. Another reason why not to use the darn things.

Point of order, Gerald, you can't really be a vinyl luddite as it is made via an industrial process. Now imagine that the lady had put her £10k of vinyl in a secure lock up that no-one knew the location of. That said, i-pads are shit.

Try taking your hi-fi and record collection on a train and playing Candy Crush Saga on it for four hours, though*

*A brief visit to the UK last year seemed to indicate this was now Britain´s favourite pastime, rather than reading stuff or knitting.

To think we used to crush resistance in our global Empire, now we just crush 'candy'.

I expect the rest of the World is extremely relieved.

I love ipads. itunes is just the wrong way to go - spotify is how you should be consuming music digitally (i am a massive convert, no recommendation i know but spotify , jambox and Sonos have genuinely changed the way I listen to music).

Also - Candy Crush is old hat grandad - check out nimble quest. you'll be hooked. warning.

I love the way that photo manages to say "So cruelly deprived of mum´s golden memories" and not "I really want a free iPad"

there's chaps on any local market that could have had that phone unlocked in seconds.

He probably wouldn't have the rights to his mum's itunes collection either.

That's my main point. You can inherit a record collection and even if it's tosh you can sell it for £££. But can you inherit an itunes collection? I doubt it, even though there is value in it.

True... Maybe a reflection of how disposable a lot of people view music these days, sadly. I like my ipad for some things, listening to music is not one of them.

I think that applies to any market in the UK. Don't try appealing to Apple's better nature because they don't have one.

How come you can't inherit an iTunes library? Far as I know when you buy something on iTunes the files are downloaded onto your computer and you can then do with them as you please. I can see a future where there are such things as mp3 raers which are coveted and traded as records are now. I'm not sure what they'd be; maybe rips of internet radio, mp3 only bonus tracks and the vast amount of 'private' mp3s on band pages which are uploaded daily across the world. So maybe they won't have the monetary value of rare records but they will likely have musical value to heads in the future (and should be easy to pass on, give away or trade which is the only point related to this thread).

You can unlock them in a couple of minutes if you don't mind losing everything but they still haven't manage to unlock Pistorius' iphone to get his voicemails after 10 months. Who needs that level of security?
