  • New Joe Bataan LP

Call My Name. Produced by Gabriel Roth at Daptone studios. Personally, I think all this new sounding-old stuff is a bit pointless, but this is a really good album. Got sent a promo the other day. Coming out on Vampi Soul soon.

Picked up the Chicka Boom/ Cyrkles 45 on VampiSoul a while book and I thought (presumed) it was actually some mid 70s thing - as everything else they do are re-issues -> no wonder I never saw the original

If the seven is anything to go by I'll pick the LP up too

...and the latest batch of sevens are interesting - a couple of LP only tracks from The Lat-Teens and also the Benito Sextet. Top latin soul...with a illicit substance theme...

They're also reissuing Betty Davis' stuff.

Top bit of psych-soul action on the Bataan LP: I'm The Fool (paart 2)!

That is a killer 45 - certainly doesn't ring like 'new sounding-old stuff' to my ears...

I think that's true and possibly why I like it a lot more than most of the new 'old' stuff coming out. It doesn't feel contrived at all, in fact the whole album is like that.
