  • How times (and words) have changed..

Stumbled upon this musical group today.

Couldn;t help but find it a bit funny at the choice of name. I suppose, back in the 60's or at least, in the circles these guys mixed in, to be called a "Mainliner" was rather innocuous and they found nothing untoward about calling themselves that. Interestingly, only a few years later, the band from UK, Second Hand, released a track on their debut album called "Mainliner". They were talking about something quite different.

Another example is the use of the word "Gay".

The other meaning of the word is also quite different, these days.

    Any others????

A very convinced shop owner tried to convince me that the "Lever Brothers Gay Flamingoes" were an all homosexual steel drum band from barbados. They did cover Elton John.

I guess these guys would probably choose a different name if they were operating now

I never understood how anyone could call themselves The Floaters.
              HAHAHAH
              Still makes me laugh.

Big Tom (& The Mainliners) was THE KING of Irish country & western in the 70s and 80s.

Most commonly, it is another term for a heroin addict. Alternative term to "junkie"....coming from the act of injecting heroin into your veins. I suppose also. as opposed to snorting it.

yes but not something I want to think about for more than a few seconds.
What genius, marketing department thought to call Omega's lp "Hall of Floaters in the Sky" ?
Ironically, because the lp was such shite, it "sank" without a trace!

I think this Larry Grayson record may have been a turning point.

Probably. In Sydney, Australia, a gay day is the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras. Do an image search if you don;t know it already. About 500,000 people attend on the night.
