I turned 45 a couple of weeks ago and had been pondering vinyl specific ways to mark the occasion (having failed to party on my 33 1/3rd birthday). As some of you may know and as I quickly found out on this forum, my 'I don't collect the little ones' position has been problematic/misunderstood/berated.
I ran the following idea past Melter...
You, collectively, give me a list of 45 45s I really should own and I spend my year of being 45 finding and buying them, at which point I might have a bit of a party and play them all. With that in mind the 45s need to be ones that you would/could 'play out', they also, my financial situation dictates, need to be findable and under a fiver.
Melter thought it a good idea to the extent that when I saw him at the weekend he gave me a nice vintage 45s box for my birthday and inside it was The Tremeloes "(Call Me) Number One", with the killer B side "Instant Whip". This means that it has already started and what a great tune - thanks Melter. From my own tiny 45s collection I'd add to it with Cozy Powell's "And Then There Was Skin" as a way to set the tone (my taste). Hammonds, Flutes and instrumentals are in... anything after about 1976 is usually out.
What do you suggest?
