  • Summer Swap

Anyone got any ideas of what types of tunes they're gonna focus on for their summer swap CD? Anyone actually started?

I'm thinking funk 45s again (since that's what I primarily buy), but I am throwing on a few LP tracks, too, coupla jazz 45s maybe. Got some nice items won on the 'bay coming in this week or next, and then I may actually get started....

I'm planning on a vocal harmony/sunshine pop/soft psych affair (Love Generation, Love Exchange, Free Design, Mike Sammes, Anita Kerr Singers, Jeff Monn etc.) with the occasional Xtian toetapper, so i hope I don't bore everyone to death.

I seem to have acquired a fair pile of this kind of stuff whereas i'm a bit light on the funk compaired to most on this board.

Let me know if I should be leaning more towards funky stuff and i'll see what I can do.

    Jamie.

the splattering of reggae tunes on the last lot of CDs has encouraged me to include some of my favourites from this genre this time around .. other than that I still have a few australian / new zealand things worthy of a guernsey, and some recent acquisitions ..

expect to lay the final selections down down at easter

      diversity is good!

I made a really nice Funk & Soul 45 mix last month so if I can't come up with anything else I'll glady burn copies of that. If not, I'm putting together a James Brown drum break mix and a mix of my favorite Soul-Jazz tunes from the Muse label.

I'm going for a Studio One rarities or East European stuff with beats and some new Finnish gems that I've come across since last spring swap.

Again, no funk 45's from me - you can hear those anytime I play out.

So we're going gospel & jazz predominantly, and whatever else takes my fancy.

I'm thinking of actually going for a mix this time rather than a compilation - depends whether I can find somewhere to set up some decks and work out how to record it. Anyway, somewhere on the psychyfolkyproggy axis I expect.

I'm going for a Soul theme... some uptempo and groovy, others slow and slushy. All LP tracks and all vocals... 70's & 80's. Mine will be mixed again though... I know some don't like that, and I know I'm not the best at it, but I like the fun involved!

I'll be all over the place!!!

Probably will put Brazilian, jazz, soundtracks, soul and a little bit of folk/psych (just in case some people are not feeling Brazilian stuff!!!).

Beaver - well done on tracking down a copy of The Professionals. Great track.

I was thinking about including a Don Cooper on the mix Veris and I are doing.

tdlt02 - We always put Brazilian stuff on our mixes. We like that stuff.

Brazilian stuff is something I really need to be educated on. Looking forward to hearing it.
