  • I'm CURED!

So at this morning's carboot sale I saw a copy of Duke Grant's HAMMOND GOLD for 20p. TWENTY PENCE. And I walked away... I've finally kicked the habit! Obviously the fact that I'm posting about it here shows that it's still looming large on my mind.

And the fact that I've had to listen to "Go" on youtube shows that things are still far from okay. But for 6 months I've been clean, and think with everyone's help here, I can stay clean...

Studio 2 Stereo and Phase 4. I'm quite good at resisting because there is quite a load of cack on both labels, but every now and again I wonder if it would be a good idea to collect the lot

Bassey's Something. I always think I must know someone who'll want a copy of this. So I have 6 copies at last count.

I keep buying DIY releases related to my hometown, mostly from the 70s and 80s.

They are invariably truly dreadful affairs but now I've started amassing them I'm stuffed, I have to have more of them.

You honestly haven't lived til you've heard Country Folk's astonishingly shite "We Are Country Folk" opus.

It's even worse than it sounds.

I thought this was going to be about a cache of dodgy goth LPs found at a bootfair.

          Only half right.

What records do you need to stop yourselves from buying?
Recordings of birds, insects, car engine noises, waves. Also albums of film themes done by Japanese studio orchestras. I have enough versions of Shaft, Profondo Rosso and Citta Violenta now to last a lifetime.

              Round ones!
Everyone tear down your own little wall
That keeps you from being a part of it all
Because you've got to be one with the one and all
You've just got to be close to it all

With you on this. I've just got too many. Unlike a lot of you I don't have the excuse that I need them because I've got to keep my box topped up for upcoming DJ slots. I'm just listening in splendid isolation. Since she 'snared' me even Mrs S K doesn't have to pretend to like my records anymore. You can't really have too many because I worry about excellent records I still haven't heard but, equally, I worry about records I have which just don't get played enough, or at all. This is where 45s score- you can run through a pile of them in an evening. I try to avoid box sets because I know I won't be arsed to open the box. I feel existentially challenged about the whole question of 'how many is enough'.

I'm no longer afflicted by Bassey's "Something" - everyone I know owns it, well, not EVERYONE I know, everyone I know who's into records owns it. So if I see it, it stays in the pile where some lucky newbie can stumble across it. Now, if it was worth a tenner, I wouldn't hesitate...

I've given up Max Bygraves and Ken Dodd records. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

I know this, but I still think there must be someone who'll want this. Like it's 1995, and no-one's ever heard it.

I've never heard it. Is it the Johnny Harris version with her caterwauling over the top?

Yes. You will have heard it, in every bar since the mid '90's.
