  • The Crusaders > Those Southern Knights

Picked this up for a couple of quid a few weeks back, and I have to say I quite like it. It does fall into the 'smooth jazz' arena more often than not, but despite me having a history of not liking that sound, now I'm rather enjoying it. It doeas have some funky moments too though.

Can anyone recommend other Crusaders LP's... how do they compare?

Seek, find, appropriate 'stomp and buck dance' by the crusaders, funky as... there are others they escape me at the moment... I'll check at home tonite if no one else gets there before me...

Its worse than that if you think about it (Crusaders / Knights)...

The LP with with what looks like their heads stuck together floating around inside a lava lamp on the front has some funkiness on it I think.

Yeah - the first one - a doubler on Blue Thumb - pretty good. Also the one on Rare Earth with 'Thank You' on it - very nice.

Southern Comfort and Hollywood are the two best LP's from them IMO.

                My fave Crusaders

My Favourite Crusader album is simply titled "1", I got cheap in Oxfam, the old dears put "2 Part set, part 2 missing, 50p". If it hadn't have been titled "1" it probably would be priced a little higher .Its a great little album, some tracks go on a bit, if you want a listen then :-

The Crusaders began as the Jazz Crusaders and released some good Soul-Jazz releases. Then they changed their name to just the Crusaders. "Souther Nights" was one of their transition pieces from the mid-1970s where they were getting a smoother sound. Their Jazz Crusaders releases are all good, and their earlier Crusaders LPs (like "1", the "2nd Crusade" and "Pass The Plate") are better than their later ones, but really almost all their records have at least one good song.

                  Here's reviews of their releases:
