Hum Dono

I recently scored a cheap copy of this. The vinyl looks right, YAX 3882 1U / YAX 3883 1U matrices, silver on black. Original inner present and correct but the cover seems a bit odd as it's not laminated. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Yes, you have won the lottery and should bust open a bottle of champagne! Not sure about the cover lamination issue (which I presume is what you want light shedding on) - but, looking at popsike, none of the copies on there seem to look particularly shiny or glossy. So maybe it was just matt? Never actually held one in the flesh...*




*Although, I was at a mate's house and had to let some workmen in while he was out - and was flabbergasted to see the words "Hum Dono" on a spine of a record on the shelf. I managed to physically restrain myself from pulling it out, figuring to do so would be in poor taste since I didn't think rummaging through someone's possessions was a very cool thing to do. So... I NEARLY had one in my hand. But merely glanced at the spine - never been re-issued, has it?

Never seen, or likely to see, Hum Dono but I seem to remember there has been a similar debate about Carr/Rendall's Phase III which also appears in a laminated and non-laminated sleeve
I think the outcome was that no one knows which came first but they are pretty much contemporaneous pressings.
Maybe its the same here? Both Lansdowne recordings on Columbia at about the same time

On a side note I realised the other day that I've got all of the tracks, bar one, on Hum Dono on compliations - which has saved me selling a kidney!

Congratulations JR. Laminated? Not laminated? I'd settle for one with no sleeve at all. When you say cheap, is that relative to what it goes for, or was it a steal?

My copy of Hum Dono is laminated, and I haven't previously heard of unlaminated issues. However, there are definitely laminated and unlaminated sleeves for Phase III and Rendell-Carr's Live LP, so it's perfectly possible that the machine spat out a few after the Clarifoil had run out. My copy of Integration is also unlaminated - I wonder if there are laminated copies of that around.

Crazzeee, but I bet get they get a good price for it even with the recent reissue, lot of minted up jazz collectors I expect, me not being one of them!

If I was staff I'd recommend buying it too!

So you found out the price, whether the staff recommended it or not, how long it had been in the shop BUT... you forgot to ask if it was laminated or un-laminated??????!!!!!!

What Reckless have up on the wall looks like a colour copy of the sleeve, anyway...

It will be a photocopy. The OG sleeve will be behind the counter. Reckless had the Mike Taylor trio LP too not that long ago.
