  • Another slow news day at The Grauniad (Top Ten Record shops ... yawn)

Looks like Col's spot has been blown up ... The World's (UK, Europe & USA ) Top Ten "Indie" stores, according to Guardian readers.

Surely some more nominations needed here?

I saw it this morning and couldn't muster the will to post a link.

And then I bought some records in Freebird today so fair enough it can't be too bad (spooky Two, Smiling Men With Bad Reputations and The John Simon Album fact fans). Though that picture is from a previous premises that closed around five years ago and its current one is just a doorway.
Enthusiastic vagueness passes for scholarship in the twilight world of the disc-jockey.

I don't really see a problem with articles like this and I quite enjoyed reading it, albeit I was hoping for something a little more detailed than the brief piece that it was.

If it gets even one more person to visit a record shop that wouldn't normally/hasn't done for years, then all good for me.

But the labels are facing a constant conundrum. “Do they press more than they originally need as it would take time to get a second run,” asks Record Store Day organiser Spencer Hickman. “Or risk it selling out, waiting two months for more and the interest waning?

It´s a tough one, and I´m no businessman, but I´d go for "press as many as you originally need", Spencer.

which is, afaik, what Spencer does with his Death Waltz label.

Press less than you originally need. Then the 2nd pressing will come in really handy.

                I could write articles.
