  • Motown 45s Query

Playing a couple of friend's weddings, one of which is actually next Friday (to my absolute horror). Both have asked me to do '"a soul thing, you know, your thing". I am however worried about the lack of straight-up motown killers in my box & unless there happens to be a Fantastic Johnny C fanatic roaming the free bar, I feel some stuff might be a bit too niche.

Therefore, I have been frantically trawling discogs/amazon/t'internet for some sort of Motown 45s boxset to hastily have delivered to the house before next week. I'd be totally down with reissues as this is probably one of the few times they'd get publicly aired.

Anyone got any advice? Cheers in advance.

Also, just burn a load of the usual wedding fodder on to disc so you have the standards on hand if needed. So you can stick to your vinyl and throw in the odd track on CD if needed.

They've both expressly asked for it to be vinyl only. Also, don't own a set of CDJs.

Don't need CDJ's, just something you can plug in, cd deck, ipod etc etc. And as Medlar says above, this comp has been my go to for many weddings over the years and is v v cheap.

Leave Edwin Starr's War at home. It a bummer for weddings.

that and Freda Payne's "Band Of Gold"

or Tainted Love, for that matter.

Do take Loves Gone Bad though
Everyone tear down your own little wall
That keeps you from being a part of it all
Because you've got to be one with the one and all
You've just got to be close to it all

Coast to Coast! On Youtube! At last!

This was one of the videos that me and my sis' would turn to when we had nothing to do on a rainy summer holiday day. We must have watched it dozens of times and, tho' I haven't watched it on YT yet (a bit late now and saving it for Sunday), I reckon I'll remember loads. Brian Glover ('any sandwich with cheese'), Pete Postlethwaite ('the plates'), the Parkstone confusion....

Thanks Sonovox! You've made my weekend

                      WF

PS. My dad must have gone nuts with the VHS in 1987 as this was another of the tapes that we used to enjoy:

We'd always fast forward to the bits with Kevin

You should be able to get the Motown Chartbuster LPs from a charity shop - would they do?

Just avoid young hearts run free.......

I drive my wife mad at weddings requesting it and it usually gets played and fills the floor!

                              What's the sense in sharing
                              This one and only life
Endin' up just another lost and lonely wife

And they will be filled with tears
Love only breaks up, to start over again
