  • Perturbator

I got this album yesterday by some chap who calls himself Perturbator. I'm not totally blown away by the music which is a kind of camp John Carpenter pastiche - a bit more pumping maybe, some of it will work in the disco - but I love the aesthetic. A kind of day-glo Bladerunner type feel and a beautiful gatefold album. The one I've got is called Dangerous Days

Seems the guy has done loads of stuff but all of it passed me by - I was wondering if anyone had any tips for his earlier stuff (and did it come out on vinyl?), a slight re-fix and this could be right up my street.
Also, there are a few other guys mining this seam - was there something called Vandroid a few years back? Anyone know if that's any good?

It does look great, I agree. Shame it's not hot pink vinyl, really. Unless I'm mistaken, I think the artwork is by British graffiti artist Mode 2, formerly of UK crew The Chrome Angels?

Rich - The Quietus reviewed this back in July 2014:

      http://thequietus.com/articles/15765...us-days-review

I recall reading the review and checking out if it was available, only to find it was one of those manufactured rarities that sold out immediately and commanded high prices on the web. Is yours a repress?
some times play g+ with back noise, some times vg , super psyché juju lpfront sleeve is very nice vg back vg , but the top corne left is eating buy rats, ask for picture

It of course did come out in hot pink (glow in the dark I believe!!)

Have you tried Le Matos? Rather like their last album (Join Us)...... they have a intriguing dark mysterious identity.

        http://lematos.bandcamp.com/

        Kiyoko
        King's Filth

Also (have to admit the synthwave scene is overloaded with similar sounding DIY kids making tracks in their bedrooms - so difficult to sift through it all!) a few ones I enjoyed last year:

This really needs no additional description. The artist is called Carpernter Brut.... the track is called Le Perv. The 'mature' video is quite something too!

They did a split release with Perturbator too I think.

On a more chilled vibe you could try Makeup and Vanity Set:

I'm rather partial to Rob's score to the remake of Maniac too, if you don't know that one:

        A few more:

        Gatekeeper

Giallo Disco label is an obvious place to find this kind of stuff:
        The Hunt
        http://giallodiscorecords.bandcamp.c...he-darkness-ep

        Cobra Copter
        Ultimate Ninja

Home - like their Odyssey album (on Midwest Collective)
        Oort Cloud

        Dynatron
        Intergalactic highway

A bandcamp comp you could have a listen to:

or maybe you will be tempted by:

I think there was a limited edition one on coloured vinyl and then a much less limited one which is what I've got I reckon.

Yeah, it is isn't it? And I suppose it's kinda samey - but this one stood out for me cos of the cover - which is no reason at all I realise.
I've got that Gatekeeper one which is really cool and (I think) a little bit different at least. Some good tips there anyway, thanks.

That video is amazing! I assume all the footage is taken from an 80s film - anyone know which one?

I liked that - was a bit heavier than most things of this kind. Went on a bit maybe, I really liked it at the start.

My wife came in while I was watching the clip, I had to explain the purpose and she promptly did a quick web dig and found:

Think Pitch came though with a few great recommendations. For me Perturbator would be try hard/sounds shit contender to something alot better.
