  • Christian Marclay at the White Cube Gallery

I went to the new Christian Marclay thing at the White Cube yesterday - enjoyable - but the high point for VGplussers is a fully functioning vinyl press!

Live music performances are being recorded at the gallery, then pressed onto vinyl with sleeves and centre labels screen printed on site before the records are placed in the gallery shop for sale at £25 a pop.

    Here are some photos:

    But is it art
"Record collecting is no mere hobby, no innocuous leisurely diversion. It is a feverish passion bordering on dementia, driving those under the influence to irrational, compulsive, fanatical extremes."

I went on the opening weekend - which was a strategic mistake, because they hadn't recorded anything to make records of at that point! But the pressing plant in container looked great...... not sure I'd want any of the music being played though......

Every record ever made is art.

The one playing in my photo was a bit of an atonal racket - so I passed.

Oh yes a big yes to Christian Marclay. Some of his work is astounding.
Watch Guitar drag or the 24 time film.
He is on of the best contemporary artists, just happens to work in sound and/or film!

Loved the caption "In order to respect the concept of Christian Marclay's work, spectators are kindly requested to play this video a 0.04 pm, local time. If time is passed, please wait for tomorrow or another day same time. Thank you."

Not seen this one before - thanks.
