  • New funk night for london kicking off!

Posted this up over at DeepFunk, now it?s a little less lawless, but still raging with the controversial soap opera storylines ? just don?t take them too seriously!

Anyhow, this is what I?ve been working on lately ? A new night called:

    Hot, Funky & Sweaty

A new night for hard funk & all things breakbeatrare, to be held on the 1st & 3rd Thursdays of the month at the Salmon & Compasses, 52 Penton St, Angel, London - starting in July, with live bands playing regularly from August. It's a nice, smallish venue with a capacity of 100-130, we're hoping for a friendly, intimate vibe. Starts at 8pm, finishes 2am. Here's what we've got for the first three sessions:

    Thurs July 03
Who more appropriate to have as our first guest DJs than Texas Funk?s Jazzman Gerald & Fryer Motherfunk ? the very chaps who reissued the tune that Hot, Funky & Sweaty is named after ? not to mention one of the best Funk compilations ever to grace this Earth!

    Thurs July 17
Andy Smith & John Stapleton make for an all-Bristol tag team tonight! Andy?s the man behind Portishead?s samples, The Document mixCD and Dynamo Productions. John?s the fella behind the excellent Dope On Plastic comps and the ever popular breakbeat club, Blow Pop.

    Thurs August 07
Our first live band at HF&S comes courtesy of Mr Güder, bringing their patented, ?bathfull of breaks? sound. Expect the best in live funk from now on! Backing up the breakdowns are Jonny Cuba (Dynamic Syncopation), Fin (Bring It Up) and HF&S founder, Nick.C

Still confirming August 21, hopefully, it'll be Little Barrie. Sept should be hopefully seeing live sets from Color Climax and maybe even something from The New Master Sounds plus Sermad?s launch of the Drama Suite reissue and lots of guest DJs of the likes of Greg Belson,  Adam Leaver and I expect several of the Brillo boys to come spin too! - that's all in the air still mind, but it should all be coming together nicely - here's hoping London can take another funk night and spread the love a little more...

Hope some peeps from V.V can make it...
