  • Tescos tentatively pounce on vinyl bandwagon shocker

    http://www.theguardian.com/music/201...s-vinyl-format

Intriguing. Looks like you *might* shortly get the opportunity of adding 'vinyls' to your weekly shopping list ...

I got excited there for a minute, I immediately had visions of racks and racks of 70s cutouts - those were the days although I didn't have the money to take proper advantage back then. Gateway, Debenhams (it had moved on from Joneses by then hadn't it?). I rememeber a friend of mine beat me to a copy of Osmium once - not that either of us were really aware of the album we just knew we liked Parliament/Funkadelic. I made do with Cosmic Slop.

A triple album of heavy metal as well. What strange times we live in.

The only records Tesco are supposed to sell are EPs on the Avenue label.

if dinosaurs like Tesco and even HMV are now selling vinyl that suggests we've reached 'peak oil' and this whole trend will taper off again pretty soon and we can go back to being a bit niche

                  Anything Tesco can do . . .

                  Is Aldi in the UK?

Their latest flyer here offers 'nostalgic albums' for 18.99 (euro).
And a player of indeterminate brand.

When the till assistants asked me "Cash back?" I always had to fight down the urge to sing "To the times when the nights were young."

The supermarket is stocking records for the first time since the 1980s,

My mum did her weekly shop at Sainsbury's and I never once saw a record there.
Ate loads of chocolate, though. Not a lot of people know that if you eat it before you get to the till you don´t have to pay for it.

                            Phrases to turn the stomach:

                            Validates the relevance
                            Cache of vinyl
                            Re-promoting the format
                            validating the demand

                            And my personal fave...

further validates on a mainstream level the relevance of vinyl as a format
...if in doubt consult your dealer.

What is the likelihood of more pressing plants opening?. The article hinted at this with some of the choice quotes pulled out above. Has anyone heard a whisper that this is on the cards? At what point does it become financially viable? Obviously, the more pressing plants, the more competition, and you would hope as a result, cheaper, more affordable product, which in turn would suggest the possibility of higher sales? Of course Sainsburys will be bigging it up, they have to. Will it last? Pass the crystal ball this way before I stump up for the new presses
Everyone tear down your own little wall
That keeps you from being a part of it all
Because you've got to be one with the one and all
You've just got to be close to it all
