I don't think I'd ever play something just to get on peoples nerves- I did do this when I was younger. My mum was obviously having a fragile day (single parent, three young kids, it was tough in the 70s) and I was playing Roxy music, and Bowie all day. Eventually she'd had enough and said words to the effect "for Christs sake that's enough of that can't you go out and play or something". I took the records off and looked through her records, pulled out a Noel Harrison LP and put it on full blast as if to say "You don't like mine, here's something you can't possibly object to". She went ape! She never went ape. I legged it out of the house. When I was older I realised she was probably right on the edge at the time. It was a bit late to say sorry but I've never forgotten it.
These days I know that if I played this Cecil Taylor, or any Cecil Taylor probably, it's not going to be Mrs SKs cup of tea. She bought me the set when it came out, and she wouldn't say anything if I put it on, but If I were playing this kind of thing I'd turn it off if anyone were about.
It's pretty easy for people to get my goat. If I walk into a room and someone has something like Beach FM, or Heart, my heart just sinks. I think why? There's a whole world of music out there.

I find that much of Yoko's oeuvre winds up people in the office - PACIFICALLY her earlier LPs ("Why?" always seems to generate much protest). One of the chaps here also really detests "We Built This City". I have the CD on my desk and I am waiting for him to royally piss me off (he has come very close on occasion). Then I will strike.Drastically reduced to 72p

"As technology has advanced, vinyl records are outdated as they are music from the 19th Century so only hipsters and elderly people buy vinyl records".

My step kids are so acutely embarrassed by anything I play in the car that they put their ipods on full blast as soon as they get in.The middle one claims only to listen to 'Heavy Rock' but by that he means a specific form of 80's soft rock, aor type stuff. I'm happy they enjoy any kind of music really and I do try and steer them towards albums that align with their tastes but seems its all about individual tracks these days.
