  • RIP Allen Toussaint

    http://www.nola.com/music/index.ssf/...aint_dies.html

Last night in Madrid, after a gig apparently...

Sad to see him go.... He wrote so many of my favorite tunes... I'd hoped to see him again, in New Orleans in January.. I'll be digging out my copy of Southern Nights this afternoon

Just seen this, sad news. Same here, always a nice surprise to find yet another song was written and arranged by him. And he always seemed a nice geezer with it.

Goodbye to an absolute legend. Saw him at the 02 a few years back, and he was top drawer. As you say Bennyboy, came across as very down to earth, despite the Rollers. That is going to be some funeral out there. I'd imagine all of New Orleans is in mourning. What a legacy though.

Treeboy, was that the New Orleans gig thing? I was also at that if so.

What a body of work! Even if he'd just done the Meters he'd deserve to be remembered. Sad loss.

Saw him at the Roundhouse a few years ago...wonderful show. At one point he played some extended piece that almost seemed to encompass the entire history of New Orleans music.

On a high, and after a few too many gin and tonics, I somehow found myself wandering around the backstage area. Suddenly in a nondescript corridor I was face to face with a man. Of course he could and should have blanked me, or told me to sod off but instead he engaged me in conversation which ended in a warm handshake. So yes, musical legend AND a top man.

lovely man, such a shame, what a legacy. think i'll still be discovering records he's been involved in when I'm 77, if I make it that far.

A legend who truly befits the title. I'd lost count of the number of classic tunes he'd penned, played on, arranged or produced before I found out that Naomi Neville was him as well!!! Good to see he was still wowing audiences right to the end....

                  Here's a nice slinky number from '72:
