  • Record of the year 2015

    Folks

Maybe a few weeks early for this but what is your favourite release of the year. Given the amount of records some of you seem to pick up it may be difficult to choose just one, but it you had to choose one and only one what is it?

Must have been released or reissued this year.

Mine, given how many times its been on rotation has to be...

    Hanz Zimmer - Interstellar OST

While the film admittedly baffled me twice and is a paradoxical head cruncher (to me at least) the soundtrack to my ears is epic, emotional and just sounds incredible. First soundtrack I'd picked up by him but after it I hunted out some more.

So yeah, what's yours ? Maybe I'll get a few steers for my list for santa...

    (Sorry, Kevin Parker )

For me, this by a country mile

Everyone tear down your own little wall
That keeps you from being a part of it all
Because you've got to be one with the one and all
You've just got to be close to it all

First thing that comes to mind is the Mariah reissue, Utakra No Hibi.

On the rap mixtape front, bit out the loop but I'd plump for Future's Dirty Sprite 2.

Oh yeah, good shout. Absolutely killer. If you dug the "Fairlights, Mallets & Bamboo" mix you need this.

Sleaford Mods - Key Markets. No competition. Took a while to get into them but this year they blew me away on disc and in concert. The voice of our times.

I was thinking about this the other day and If pushed for a reissue I'd say 'Hum Dono' as it just beauty personified, not listened to Trunks release of 'Galactic Nightmare' yet too busy.

As far as new albums I've bought 3 (yep, crap I know) and heard a further two so not many to choose from but as its been growing on me the new 'Beirut' album 'No, No, No' would be my choice followed by 'Now We Have Light' by 'Sanguine Hum' which was unfortunately CD only.

Man! I used to be so in touch with these things.

Not heard the latest by 'Sleaford Mods' but I've liked their previous and surprised there are not more like them at the moment. I'm loving how his voice is developing, almost singing at times now. I've heard people dissing him because of it but I strongly disagree anyway I digress...

Ordered a copy of hum dono, seems to get a lot of love round these parts.

Such a lot of good records that I can hardly think which is my favourite. Jessica Pratt's 'On Your Own Love Again' was a definite standout. Stripped down guitar and vocals with comforting background hum. I wish the lyrics hadn't been printed in yellow because I can hardly see them. Bronco Bullfrog's 'Marmalade' has been my 45 of choice lately. A love-letter to the sweet breakfast preserve which manages to rhyme 'pectin' with 'expecting'. The whole thing is super-groovy and over too soon.
