Sorry if this is old news, but ... just noticed that HMV are pushing classic album product on vinyl (Nirvana, NWA, Winehouse) along with Crosley turntables in an classy TV ad campaign. Weird. 'Vinyls' are now bizarrely mainstream. Think I may have to get out of the game and pick up a more interesting niche hobby, like unearthing Coptic manuscripts or something ....

I saw that ad too !!! Really pushing vinyl ? I know why we like vinyl but don't get why they are pushing it - am I missing something ?- - - -
Maybe its downbeat with depressing themes and technically imperfect vocals but it is an excellent example of a downbeat mix with depressing themes and technically imperfect vocals
A heathen, conceivably, but not, I hope, an unenlightened one

I´m not so cynical.
I was in the FNAC store in Madrid at the weekend. There´s an entire vinyl section where there were previously a couple of racks, and you can fill your boots with classic rock and jazz reissues if you´re willing to pay the price. Plenty of folks browsing, too, and not all them had full beards or even penises.
Also I don´t think it´s that expensive. €20-25 for a decent package isn´t that bad - vinyl´s always been fairly expensive.
We´ll know that vinyl´s really back when Primark start stocking budget lps of Adele cover versions.Vardy.....¡¡¡PELIGRO!!!

last time I was in HMV I had to wait for three women to finish going through the soundtrack section, I also saw a 13 year old boy clutching nevermind on vinyl. it was all rather nice, until I got in the soundtrack box and saw Jurassic park double vinyl for £43.99!

The main problem with HMV getting heavily involved with Vinyl again is how much of their stock they get on sale or return that just sits there unsold which could sell all day long in an independent shop. There's been titles (particularly in the months just before and after RSD) that we have sold out of and that we are unable to restock as all the stock has gone to HMV.

Problem with HMV is they just let it sit and sit and hardly if ever reduce it (if anything I've seen them up price albums that have been restocked) from what I've seen. In one of my local ones they've just installed a new vinyl section which is so straight its always collapsing on people, lots of records with crushed corners for 24.99 and all in a completely random order last time I was in!Mixes, Music: https://www.mixcloud.com/amitron_7/
