  • What did Santa Bring 2015

So what vinyl if any did everyone get from the fat bearded man in the red suit? I'll post some up later but vinyl porn pics welcome.

Have to admit not in the spirit of the thing but I kind of preempted relatives with requests this year to avoid the pile of tat that seems to reside in our conservatory until we find it again a year later. A scheme that was at least 90% successful I'm happy to report.

Ditto here on the Adele cd.
And no vinyl for me. Typing this on my pressie - a tablet. It's great not having to wait for boot time (eons on a 4 year old laptop), but could mean I am permanently lost in the internet.

I got the first volume of the new Soul Jazz Coxsone compilation and this: http://www.noformat.net/album-kasse-...kirike-42.html
Both pretty obviously under direct instruction from me. Any posting here would be virtually impossible to buy music for, our tastes are so fernickity.
In a moment of Christmas cruelty, what I had convinced myself was the second volume of the above-mentioned comp turned out to be.... a Banksy calendar.

This is true, and add condition issues into this and there is potential for expensive disapointments galore...

Experience has told me only to ask for new things I wouldn't really buy myself like reissues... so this year I got the second volume of Welsh Rare Beat & the Scottish Xian Caedmon...

For quite a few years now, it's been a bit of a tradition with me and my old digging pal who now lives in Australia, to send each other a parcel of vinyl goodies for Christmas. This year I sent him out a load of Techniques (the label) 45s, a couple of yellow Decca African 45s and some other obscure calypso 45s I found in a second hand shop. He was made up when we Skyped on Christmas day. He djs an Islands night in Perth, so that lot will get played out. I was on the receiving end of a Little Willie John ep on El Toro, Churchin' by Paul Bryant and Brother Jack by Jack McDuff on Prestige. Also got a limited comp of '60s Brisbane garage bands called Kaptain Kavemen From Brisbane, which is great. 13 unreleased tracks only 1 previously comped.

Two good reads about interesting guitarists

James Vincent (aka Dolinger) Space traveler/.................incredible insightful book about the versatile musician (great stories about Rotary Connection, Coven, Culmination, Azteka)

Life and time of Lenny Beau.... worth it for the two pages on the recording session about Beverly Glenn Copeland

Totally agree music wise but its as if some of my relatives don't even know me or make any effort come to that.

Examples given: A book about what it means to be English (if you are an utter twat that is) something about the Second World War, a Steve Jobs book and frosted whiskey glasses for someone who hasn't had a drink in over 10 years! What kind of vibe I'm I giving off to get those?

I'd have liked that Banksy calendar though!

Crikey I sound like a right scrooge but I don't have the biggest house and would like to be able to fill it things I like. Then the mother in law comes around and moans about the clutter, yep most of it is the the shit you've sent me over the years. I love her really!

                  Oh and nice! SirSlim

I too missed doing secret santa this year. Things are starting to slip around here - no secret santa and no charity shop challenge anymore!

Just got the one which I picked up myself a few days before crimbo. Didn't know anything about it but was sold on the cover. Bit of a corker if you like the hammond/drums combo stuff.

I meant to start a thread earlier this month, but with a newborn in the house it was all I could do to scrabble together a swap CD.... I did wonder if someone else might suggest it

I'd be happy to organise a post-Christmas secret Santa type thing, if enough people were keen, and it isn't somewhat missing the point...?!

Resurrection of the CSC should be a board New Years Resolution. The East Anglian contingents' epic this year was brilliant. I'm up for giving it a go. Hands up people, time to have a laugh.

I requested the Rubble Collection from my girlfriend so I finally school myself on the basics of UK psych etc and hear records I'll never own on 45. Perfect for the car.
