  • Jazz - The African Sound - Jazzman Records

It may be that I'm the only one interested in this (although I suspect not) but Jazzman have just reissued a South African Jazz Grail - Chris McGregor and the Castle Lager Jazz Band - Jazz the African Sound
I've seen an OG go for four figures on eBay and even the reissue from the 1990s goes for three figures
For me this is going to be the only way to own this recor
    Only 500 pressed apparently

I am interested. I am not sure how interested. Better decide quickly I suppose. How do you suggest I go about forming a quick view? Any particular tracks?

Not good for my bank account, bills etc and not the record I was planning to buy this month but how can I ignore an Expiry SA jazz tip? Equal parts thanks & damn you. Now I only have to wait several weeks for the buggered postal system to deliver it.

Thanks - ordered. And also spotted that there's a repress of the mighty Greg Foat first LP - essential.

thanks for the big up expiry. took a while to get this sorted, but its worth it. audio is restored by the mighty See Why audio from the best source we could find (the tapes were lost decades ago - and note that the 1991 repress was also restored from vinyl and electronically rechannelled, so this is the best its ever likely to sound unless the tapes show up somewhere), the cover photo restored from the original Basil Breakey photo not from a cover scan, more pics and an unpublished Breakey photo on the insert, new notes, & all done with blessing of Maxine McGregor...

Sounds amazing - I really can't wait to get my mits on this
And I'm delighted to hear that Maxine McGregor is involved. I thought her Chris McGregor biography was fascinating.
Between yourself and Matsuli SA jazz has been seeing a lot of reissues- which is of course brilliant in my view. Are there more SA jazz reissues in the pipeline?

Why did I click on this thread. Ended up spending 46 quid I didn't have on stuff I had no intention of buying before.
