  • Opinions sought about ebay item + segue question....

I recall seeing this seller's items before and always thought he could have put a cloth or paper down on the wooden surface first to avoid any scuffing etc... and make the whole presentation look better generally. He/she does it on some records but not all. I would not be inclined to bid on a record that was laying on a bare wooden surface. I am a bit pedantic/paranoid about what it might do to the playing surface, esp if I am going to bid highly and also I think that if seller can;t be bothered or has no "respect" (for want of a better word), for it, I won;t bother either. I am not sure if it's a table-top or floorboards. Any opinions? Maybe you work with wood.

Segue to another question that has probably been asked before, but are there things that certain ebay sellers do all the time that you wish they would stop and it gets under your skin etc..? Like some that list records with a buy-it-now price that you think are very high, bordering on ridiculous and they keep listing it over and over again?

In the other listings, the seller has placed the Antlers record on the inner sleeve -better- and then chucked the outer sleeve(s) on top! Just for good measure no doubt.
Everyone tear down your own little wall
That keeps you from being a part of it all
Because you've got to be one with the one and all
You've just got to be close to it all

The whole thing is very strange. At least he didn;t cover the text on the label of The Antlers record with the album cover, like on the Moon Safari lp listing.

Had one of my chief irritations just a few days ago. Seller, who I think I've experienced this with before, has all their records listed as BIN with offers and there are a few bits I'm interested in so I put an offer in on a couple of them to test the water. No reply for a few hours then one of the records is removed from the listings and the other I hear nothing back and the offer time runs out.

So what was the point of that then? If you don't like the offer and you haven't set a minimum limit then at least have the courtesy to engage in some sort of dialogue or don't set your listings with frikkin offers! I'm getting annoyed again just writing this.

Lol, one of my eBay irritations that either, reject, counter offer, send a message or don't have it on the listing in the first place. It takes literally seconds to do any of these things!

Looks like floor to me. Love the way he managed to make the label hide his face in the disc reflection of him taking the photo.

I get offers all the time from ebay saying I can list for free if I offer buy it now with offers. so I have to put it on. I am guilty of ignoring emails that have quite low offers on them, especially when the buy it now is a reasonable price.

Put an offer in on an lp on Discogs. There was another copy available, which didn't have the offer option, but was a few quid more than the offer I made. That same day, the offer was removed from the lp I had made the offer on. Didn't hear anything from the seller. 5 days went, and so did the cheaper copy. Play the game chaps! If you think my offer is too low, just have the decency to say so. BTW, the seller had 3 completed transactions, so I don't think they were snowed under by any means.

Sellers have five days to consider an offer, right? So playing the game would reasonably include waiting in case someone else makes a better offer, surely?

Sometimes I think its that in the UK we just don't like playing the bartering game even when you cant see the other person.

You have 3 chances to make an offer and the seller can counter offer and add dialogue to it. Playing the game to me on ebay means selling stuff and making a profit and getting rid of stuff if that means a lesser profit so be it in some cases. I can understand it if the offer is a piss take they probably don't deserve a reply but I don't think people on here do stuff like that.

I thought it was 48 hours to consider an offer I may well be wrong?

Ebay is much better for bargains on records nowadays, right? Wish there was more than 100 Saved Searches, especially as most of mine are officially ghost town tumbleweed searches (even Grumbleweed searches )

My want list on Discogs is so big and all the repeat sellers (I am sick of seeing djtl, recordstore.de, etc.) means that my patience wears thin looking through.

Floor is bad. I don;t like the idea of even wooden tabletop but putting on a bare floor makes me think they are lazy and an amateur - and then I wonder how their grading and packing will be like.
btw.. speaking of ebay... I wonder what I should write for the feedback section for ebayer gunnarsnyder and his non-purchase of my lp? Maybe this: "Reggae Community? pffft"
                            Any suggestions?

Exactly - I often take a few days to consider. Especially when I get a low ball offer five minutes after listing/lowering the price. To me it seems obvious that I'll be using the five days to see if anyone else's attention has been caught. And not infrequently it has. Or sometimes I'm away with limited wifi or too distracted by real world shit to give it much consideration. Also not infrequently if I take five days to respond the would be buyer gets snotty.
