Music you have grown out of

following on from the music you have grown into thread, what music have you grown out of?

my late teenage years were spent listening to the most extreme black / death metal I could find. I cant stand it now, in fact I can hardly stand any metal bands now.

I had an early teenage phase of dodgy Indie bands with one word names I kind of grew out of and AC/DC thankfully. Oh and a minor industrial phase that consisted of well mainly listening to 'Ministry' a lot as well as American hardcore but it kind of got boring.

Other than that I tend to revisit certain things these days like British Blues for example, was mad on it at 15. You always come back to good music.

Which begs the question, if it's good, why did you go off it?
Tastes change, which is how it should be. It doesn't mean any one sort of music is better than another. It's all out there for our entertainment.

This thread has reminded me that I must listen to Rush, Deep Purple, Yes, Led Zep, Bad Company, Robin Trower, Pat Travers, AC DC, and the mighty Priest over the weekend. Thanks Paul-K!

That's exactly it, still re-visit 'Fugazi' from time to time some things not so much but then I probably only pretended to like them at the time to feel cool.

I agree, I used to have a cut off point of 84 with 'Signals' being the last thing of theirs. I enjoyed nothing that followed but as my anti 80's digital synth hatred softened I've reassessed 'Presto', 'Grace Under Pressure' and 'Roll the Bones' among others of late and they aren't to bad albeit patchy. If you can stand 'Rush' that is otherwise forget it! (they are the definition of a 'Marmite Band')

I don't listen to any of the old jazz funk and soul I used to like - stuff like Lonnie Liston Smith, Leroy Hutson, "Places & Spaces" - I don't think it's bad music at all, it's just my tastes have changed and time moves on. I was even thinking about getting rid of my Lee Perry boxsets - not 'cos they're not brilliant - they are - but I've listened to them so many times, I feel like they're in my DNA now.

Trying to think of stuff I used to love that I now think is BAD, nothing springing to mind straight away.

I still revisit Led Zep occasionally. Over the years (lots of them) the two lps that do come out are the first and third. The first because it has the excitement of a new beginning. The third because of the diversity and the ominous mood which overshadows it, but mainly because I still think The Immigrant song is a hoot.
Went to see Rush on the 1st UK tour and was smitten. Started getting twitchy after Farewell To Kings. Haven't played any of their records for over 20 years. Maybe they should go? Maybe I should listen to them with "20 years on" ears?
I don't think you ever really leave stuff behind for good. It's part of your musical taste development process. Sometimes I look at things I haven't played for years and think "why have I still got that?". Sometimes I'll play it, and usually there will be buried memories associated with it. Even if it's just a memory of what a twat I was, it's part of how I arrived here............listen to me "Rambling on". Actually Zeppelin 2 has its moments now I've said that

I have no probs with the Zeps 1-4, 2 and 4 probably being my faves but they are etched into my brain so rarely get played these days.
