Sorry to be so long in replying to this ET - you're right though - a very sad loss. First heard him in the 70s when my bro brought home a copy of 'Strikin' It Rich', which along with a few other things we listened too back then (Asleep At The Wheel, Chilli Willi, etc.) gave me a taste for western swing. Hicks was cool and funny enough to keep that music alive through those times. Later I learned he was one of the original Charlatans of 'Codeine' fame. I was hoping maybe to check out a show at some point when I learned he was back on the road, but of course that won't happen now....
