  • That funny old record reissue game (Hansi rleated)

I understand why common records get reissued. Especially if they are actually, y'know, good. But I guess someone is gonna be waiting a while for their sixty euro payday? Especially given I only discovered this as I've multiple Well Kept Secrets. I had thought the Bi-plane cover was German but it doesn't seem to be the main German edition.

It does on my Discogs. The Spanish edition has a different photo of Hansi, almost certainly due to Franco's censors objecting to his socialistic beard.

I wouldn´t pay 60 euros for a sealed, one-off reissue of one of his best records, but i bet someone might.

Quite a good roster of old and new releases on that label, to be fair 'Well Kept Secret' is ace albeit not worth 47 quid + p+p cos its got a cooler cover. Think I prefer the airman goggles.

Why? Because its so expensive or just because its not even the best tracks to have on 45.

Copies are still in my local shop for €15.

Has anybody ever looked through the "Polka Pops Ännchen von Tharau" end of the spectrum for funky stuff?

I think these are more a case of James tapping the cultural wellspring of his identity, probably a result of attending workshops on Sylt where he and the band gathered to get in touch with their Saxon and Jute roots, talking in Plattdeutsch and eating herrings.
The Bavarian stuff never convinces quite as much as the northern tunes, but James showed a strong affinity with the neighbouring Friesian culture on Op Klompen, posing in local costume in front of iconic architectural features of the region.

I wish I'd took a picture of the huge pile of his records up priced in a local charity shop with 'Just Died' written on a piece of folded card on top. Not the best tribute to the great man.
