  • Keith Emerson has passed

Keith Emerson died on March 10, 2016 in Santa Monica, California aged 71. While I'm not a huge ELP or the Nice fan, there's no denying his colossal talent. I also met him once, as part of a group, and he was very nice and down to Earth. Another music giant has left us in 2016.

Flippin' 'eck! What a week. ELP were a massive attraction when I was at school in my early teens. Undeniable talent as you say M. I still really rate the 1st Nice lp, and play it quite a lot. Stonking Hammond sound. The celestial choir just gained a new organist. Seat belts on angels.
RIP Mr E, a true, old school, flamboyant entertainer

Ever since hearing 'Hang on to a dream' as a child, I was hooked. So many great tracks and performances. So much restless energy and experimentation. Even the most ludicrous ELP triple LPs left no-one indifferent. RIP Keith.

This album never far from my turntable. The sheer energy of these performances is amazing. This is one of my faves. Manages to reprise the art statement that was 'America' and throw in a bit of Beatles too.

And this later 45 in all its anaolgue synthy glory.

Like a British version of Zappa's 'Mom and Dad' generation gap statement off 'We're only in it for the money'.

Well that's that then. Saw ELP at the old Wembley arena at the impressionable age of 14, he was a true livewire on stage.

Never a big fan just the odd tune here and there but a massive talent who made keyboard playing a spectacle and influenced a lot of things musically and theatrically that came after, that cant be denied. RIP Keith I'm truly saddened.

'Eclectiktronik' mentioned 'energy' that probably sums him up he had it in spades!

            RIP

Very troubled to hear the phrase 'self inflicted' on the radio just now.

Sadly it sounds like a tragic story is yet to emerge.
