  • Hoola Bandoola Band- Vem Kan Man Lita Pa?

Any Prog/Jazzy heads think this is worth getting, good musicianship, jazzy? etc or is it pants? Seem a lot of cheap copies of the reissue around tis all.

From my town, Malmö. I wouldn't say it's jazzy. Pretty straightforward, lyric based, not that exciting musically.
I don't know why they made a reissue, not hard to find a VG+ copy for 3-4£ here. They don't even fly out of charity shop/car boot crates.

A lot of it is on Youtube, so give it a listen.

Cheers Crate, yeah had a look at those youtube vids dont do much for me on the whole, a bit in parts but don't think I'll take the plunge. Seeing as you are from Sweden and were on the subject of prog apart from 'Samla Mammas Manna' who I love what are the bands artists worth looking out for from Sweden?

        Kebnekaise
        Träd Gräs & Stenar

Other Swedish Prog that I would recommend:

Anglagard is not to be missed.

You're probably familiar with Bo Hansson. Others...Algarnas Tradgard, Isildurs Bane, Kultivator, Trettioariga Kriget, and Gosta Berlings Saga are all well worth investigating.

Good luck with that 1st Anglagard lp!!!! Would be a nice find in a Swedish chazza
Don't know how proggy you want to get Amidar, but have you checked Merit Hemmingson ?. Definitely has her moments. Unlike Anglagard which is in the "classic" proggy vein, She has quite an individual sound, which I would say borders on prog in places. I like Huvva!, Trollskog, and Bergtagen. Worth a look as you won't need to re-mortgage your house to pick them up.
I may be barking up the wrong tree completely, and you probably know her work already, but it's worth flagging up just in case.

Everyone tear down your own little wall
That keeps you from being a part of it all
Because you've got to be one with the one and all
You've just got to be close to it all

Yes, Bo Hansson I should have mentioned, espec Sagan om Ringen and Ur Trollkarlens Hatt, and his previous duo Hansson & Karlsson.

Merit Hemmingson albums can be picked up really cheap here, usually linger in chazza crates at £1-2. If there is interest I could pick up spares and send to UK, I normally don't because of the low interest here.

Änglagård is newer symph prog, so I would be extremely surprised to find in a chazza crate.

Hence the smiley. It's a tad pricey.

Ha, Cheers guys I know a lot of prog from Norway, Finland, France, Italy etc but Sweden not so much. Yep forgot about Bo he's an obvious one and some of Janne Schaffer's work, what was that cray kids band he sessioned for? Might as well pick cratediggers brain.

Think I have that 'Anglagard' probably in a Norwegian folder like the lazy little Englander that I am. Have they not done a reissue of that yet?

Oh and thanks Mo lots to be looking at there.

As Proggy as it gets,TB I'll give that 'Merit Hemmingson' (never heard of before) a listen and check out the others.

We had my stepsons Swedish friend come over to stay recently, well last year and I realised apart from the obvious I had no sneaky prog I could slip on in the background. I dont think the record I had of Cod Swedish folk songs would have gone down well! I don't have it anymore!

I like your new sig TB, where is it from?

You mean Electric Banana Band? I think Schaffer is a proper member as "The Zebra", and wrote most of the music.
He was omnipresent in Swedish music in the 70s. Everything from prog to ABBA, he played on most of their records.

Made in Sweden is another band to check out with Jojje Wadenius. He was in B,S & T for a while.

Also the first 2 albums by Pugh (Rogefeldt). Backed by Wadenius on bass and Janne Karlsson (Hansson & Karlsson) on drums.

Sig is from Melanie. Close to it all. I prefer the Dion version.

For some proper proggy prog, check Panta Rei.

That's the one, seen some bizarre videos on YouTube a bit like Sweden's answer to the Banana Splits. I've not listened to 'Made in Sweden' for years think I found them a bit heavy rock, probably time to re-evaluate them, had no idea about the BS&T connection.

Probably because the LP was on Colours, a Norwegian label.
It just never grabbed me, and I sold my copy for what seemed like a small fortune at the time.
Probably sells for way more now!

If you like Stooges/MC5, this was another great Swedish band:

Dave Lee Roth, I Too Am Running With This Devil Of Which You Speak (sic)
