Record buying conundrum

I've been spending some quality time trawling the Internet for records today and have come across a previously unknown (to me) LP that has piqued my interest but had given me pause for thought. It wouldn't be a totally blind punt as I know the majority of artists and players involved but it is up for £25 in a genre that can be hit or miss for me. BUT is on a label that I like to pick up.

The main question really is - what is the threshold for a blind(ish) punt? Going by the players it ought to be decent but I'm reticent (in part from other prospective spending over the next few days). I know that everyone's circumstances are different and so values will vary but would be interesting to get some perspectives.

Date always comes into play for me on blind punts for that price. Anything post 73-74 and I would be reticent unless it was electronica.

Flipping is a fair point - I don't tend to flip too much, hence the vinyl graveyard building up in the spare room. Date wise - '69 folk so well within the realm of worth it. My usual dates are the late 70s and 80s for synth/post punk so '69 seems an age before. Folk is a genre that I'm really just dipping my toe into at the moment but on the record in question I am passingly familiar with 3/4 of the performers.

Hmm did more digging and seems it should be a two disc set so will probably leave it, although price maybe seems not too outlandish (having said that I have just found a copy elsewhere for £12 so might pull the trigger on that one). Broadly speaking Amidar, I think I agree with your general point that for what is kind of a punt at these mid level prices other factors come into consideration.

I'd say go for it. Unless you need the money for something else.

If you don't like it, at least you tried. If you like it ... the joy will be double.

Also, maybe you don't like it at first, then you think, well, I paid £25 for this, I'm going to listen to this some more and then the beauty of the album will open up to you

Liking the zen ness to that approach Mescal. Turns out to be pretty known and there does seem to be clips on YouTube so I'll give them a go tomorrow. It's a comp called The Golden Bird with Bitter Withy, Achie Fisher, Barbara Dickson and some others. I do need money for a few other things at the moment hence my reticence (or at least more reticence than usual) as I have a few other punts to pay for and a charity shop trip planned for next weekend so hope to find a few bits then!

As long as you can afford it - go for it and broaden your musical palette. If you don't like it punt it on, discogs is easy to use and £25 would indicate some sort of a market for it.

The golden age of folk and I say this as someone who is gradually dipping his toe in the water so by no means a given is late sixties to about 72-73 but if you know and dig the players involved sometimes its a no brainer.

75 notes for a CTI.... Yikes, was it Kathy McCord by any chance? All others are gettable for under 20 notes now days.

The Spanish press of early CTI singles are cheep and plentifull, fill your boots with them.

If you don´t buy it you'll never see it again and think about it for years.

I've read people from the US see them as ubiquitous like our Paul Young and MFP records and they mostly end up in the dollar crates.

That Folk comp is pretty scarce and would be well worth it, value wise if complete. I say that based on what it has gone for on ebay. http://www.popsike.com/php/quicksear...bird&x=19&y=12

It happens there is a CTI record worth £75, as mentioned by Boi. First CTI release and unlike any other CTI release.
