  • Cover versions of the Stone Roses

So the Stone Roses are supposedly bringing out a new single...

But we've all heard that before... fingers crossed.

It got me thinking, though. I don't think I know of a cover version of a Stone Roses tune from their 1st album, anyone know any?

Seminal as they are I'd expect a few but i'm drawing a blanl from my head... I might have to do a bit o' googling...

I'm tempted to say 'Scarborough Fair' by Simon & Garfunkel, but as I'm feeling charitable, I'll point you to the B side of this single by my sometime acquaintances, The Quarter After...

'Merrymouth' an offshoot of 'Ocean Colour Scene' apparently but nice enough cover, in fact I'm quite impressed. :

Well, it's not on the UK LP, but it is on the original US CD release: Fool's Gold ... A superb version of which exists on a 10" single by Mr Hopkinsons Computer (Late of this parish)

Well, it's certainly truer to the original than the others so far - The Quarter After being the main side project of Rob Campanella (of The Brian Jonestown Massacre) and his brother Dominic, they give it a slightlydelic West Coast feel with a nice little sitar-like solo on the runout ...there's one on Discogs right now for ...

I met 'Mani' out of the Roses at an all nighter once years ago just as he'd joined Primal Scream. He was a really nice bloke and I hugged him. The End.

There's a cover of I Wanna Be Adored by the Raveonettes : pretty similar but with a female vocal and slightly more synthy. I rather like it!

There's a great Stone Roses / Air / Marvin Gaye mashup by ccc from abut 10 years ago called La Fool D'Argent... can't find it online but will dig it out and try to upload it.
