  • Nat Birchall

I can't find a new releases for May thread but just in case I'm being as blind as a bat I'll list this separately- It's released in June anyway. Many of us must have picked up Nat Birchall's 'Akhenaten' when it came out as a CD some years ago. The good news is Jazzman are reissuing it as an LP in June. 600 copies, I think. Even the CD is hard to come by these days.

Are these still available/going to be available????
My poor brain isn't up to the Jazzman website that says its out of stock but asks me the sign up when it's available!
I did sign up to get an email telling me when it's on sale, but so far nothing yet
        Fingers crossed!

I've recently been admiring the jacket of Nat's last album 'Invocations', which is a rather tasteful flipback affair (designed by Mr Divine of this very parish, I believe)

I've set my heart on having a flipback for my next vanity release. Well you only live once don't you. Anyone know who makes these nowadays?

Don't tell me Garrod and Lofthouse have gone out of business! We need to get out of Europe sharpish before other fine British businesses go down the pan.

Yes, it was a bitter shock to me too SK. It appears those other 60s sleeve printing stalwarts EJ Day & Co have also bitten the dust.

HOWEVER, I was heartened to see that Clarifoil - those manufacturers of the finest laminate - are still thriving. Although they seem to have reduced themselves to laminating restaurant menus these days. How the mighty have fallen!

Ian, aside from asking Gerald, have you tried contacting Dom from Great Pop Supplement? The Other World Of The Soundcarriers also has a flipback sleeve.

Another nice contemporary example, with good use of the font from the Decca 'World Of' series as well.

I'm usually reluctant to bother people with requests like that, but maybe I'll give it a try...

The classic Swedish sleeve printers SIB-tryck is still going strong. According to their webpage they still have the machines that printed all those millions of ABBA sleeves.

I'b admired that sleeve many times but had no idea 'The Divine One' designed it. Superb work its influences always raise a smile.

The two recent Greg Foat 10"s are lovely examples complete with a box saying 'Set of 2, Record 1 containing sides 1 and 2' and sleeve notes. Possibly manufactured by Media Hut?

Those Greg Foat 10"s did turn out nicely... I'm glad these small details get noticed. You are correct, they were made by Media Hut (although the credit on the sleeves is the more staid-sounding parent company, because it looked more 60s!).

The next Jazzman "Holy Grail" album (under wraps at the moment) will have a lovely 60s US style paste-on sleeve...
