  • Capitol Hill is to book stores as ... is to record shops

Books not records but I thought this might get a VG+ smile: an article about Washington DC's most curmudgeonly (book) shop owner. Remind you of any of our favourite record shops? :-)

I do like that verb he's coined Intellectual-Peacocking. I fancy I may essay a little intellectual-peacocking of my own this evening. I wonder if I'll have the nerve to pull it off.

I like him he sounds funny whereas the other guy over here (only going off the YouTube clips) is either nice or a complete fruit cake depending on the time of day and seems to hate records.

I thought the article made the Capitol Hill owner sound quite reasonable. Whether that's true or not it would be impossible to say without a visit, and I think it also depends on his pricing. I think the shop owners who refuse to let things go for less than book price and gradually accumulate more and more stock (which gets harder to view and less appealing for more casual buyers) and get bitter and resentful are the worst. If there's bargains and interesting books to be found, then it looks like a fun place to visit.
