  • 70s French Folky Breathiness

Figured this would be a good place to ask...

    Can anyone add to this list of albums, that for me all have a similar vibe (at least in moments);

    Brigitte Fontaine- S/T (1972)
    Francois Hardy- Le Question
    Gainsbourg- Melody Nelson
Leo Ferrer- Amour, Anarchie Vol. 1/2
    Jean Pau Verdier- Vivre

Basically more French folky albums that are from this early 70s era, with softly spoken vocals, Brazilian influence, clean electric guitars, picked electric bass, fender rhodes etc...

The kind of music that sounds like Stereolab basically

No loud/belting chanson singing. Female breathy sexiness or men reciting poetry only

If they're not hundreds of pounds even better. I was all up for buying 'la question' as soon as I heard it but swiftly retreated back into my hole when I saw the prices

    Thanks!

        Michel Polnareff "Polnareff's". Stunning l.p.
Gerard Manset S/T. Original press is expensive but there's an amended reissue from the late 70s which shouldn't be too pricey.
        Drastically reduced to 72p

Thanks Mang. Polnareffs i'm aware of from my break-hunting days

Not especially feeling Manset from what I can find on YouTube... the piano is a bit too rocking for me

Not massively breathy but very 'labby. Well - more Broadcast-y really. OG is expensive but there are still reissues knocking around.

Claudine Longet? Sings in English, though.

Forgot to put that one on the list

Similar sound to Melody Nelson on this album innit

These recommendations are amazing. Could make an ace mix already!

I used to have one of her old albums, it wasn't the one. This is wicked though!
